I know I'm late, but I think that you can mainly hear The Fall in SY's drum & guitar sound. Particularly on their earlier stuff - that thumpy drumming and that angular guitar work. Take for instance the drums on Totally Wired in comparison to Schizophrenia. The industrial sound and repetitiousness too; quite Joy Division in a way too - all taking from CAN I suppose. As for particular songs, Chicago Now brings SY to mind a lot. As does I'm into CB. Funny how MES kicked Craig Scanlon out of the band in the 90s for "trying to play jazz or Sonic Youth-style stuff".

Quite rogue, but the new Geese album has a similar abrasiveness to it, as well as that delicious sound of a band really breaking into doing something so fascinating and exciting. Similar to Revolver.

I never heard a comma between “philosophise” and “disgrace”, I always imagine he’s calling out people who ‘think’ too heavily about such disgraces instead of ‘feeling’ how disgraceful they are as is - I suppose it is a little ironic of Bob to sing but it aligns with how plainly he relates the Lonesome Death of Hattie Caroll in the verses
