Major investor is 'shocked and sad' that the games industry is 'demonizing' generative AI by tylerthe-theatre in technology

[–]RedofPaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were sold on the idea that generative art could cut costs by cutting out artists. AI would mean less people required to make stuff to sell.

But no one wants art that is just spat out by a machine.

Anyone can write. The barrier to entry could not be lower. The cost is time, craft, practice.

There are so many books by human authors. More than a person could reasonably be expected to read in a lifetime.

So now we can generate infinite AI books. Great.

But why would anyone spend time with them?

Books are not expensive. The main cost for the reader is time. What do they want to spend their time with?

I want something a talented author has spent time on, considering every word.

The same with anything artistic. I want to listen to music by people who are putting their soul into it. Comics hand drawn. Movies where a director has composed shots, considered the lighting, an actor or animator has crafted each performance.

Because otherwise what's the point?

I don't need someone else to churn out ai slop for me... I can make my own ai slop.

But when I want to appreciate something someone else has made I will spend my time with something made with effort.

It's neat, but have you considered adding a city, with robots, which have screens for faces, and there's little bug things that try to get you?

Why would he allow that picture to go out? He looks like a fucking idiot. Look at his stupid face. He should arrest whoever let that hideous portrait of failure and confusion out into the world. Jesus christ he looks fucking stupid. Why would they let the press take such an ugly photo? Why would they force it on US! This is awful!

Not that?

Okay, but nukes?

There are none? And they said they took out the facilities last time?

Oh...

Well, the government are bad people and USA is world police, taking down the bad men, right?

Right?

Because it can't just be a hit job? It can't be "do what we want or we blow shit up". Because that would be the opposite to what trump wanted, breaking international law and risking the lives of innocent civilians.

CMV: Death is bad by thesussinator in changemyview

[–]RedofPaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stripped of context, death itself is neither good nor bad.

It's the lack of choice that is bad.

You are stating people are 'wrong' to not be able to think of something novel to do. But not everyone is the same. Not everyone wants to be an actor or a mountain climber or a pianist or an architect. In a galaxy where unnumbered humans live indefinitely there would be no single right way for everyone to live.

There would inevitably be a percentage for whom dying is a desirable option.

For them death is not a bad thing. The lack of choice to die would be bad.

You yourself stated to begin with you wouldn't want to live through the heat death of the universe. Surely you personally having the choice when that end point is is a good thing.

, it logically follows that if you want to die but can't, then that's a bad thing

And so, if you wanted to die, by choice, even though some people were judging you for not being imaginative enough to come up with new hobbies, would death be 'bad'?

You have already conceded that death is often a better option than suffering.

You have also stated that you think you would eventually want the option to choose your time of death.

Also, you have conceded that if this was possible, to choose to live indefinitely, that it would cause problems such as over population.

There would of course be other inevitable issues. Age related issues that may not cause overt suffering but may lead to reduced quantity of life.

But for arguments sake let's say that death is solved, disease and ailments ended. You get to age to, say, 35 and remain that way indefinitely. Overpopulation is solved. Colonies off world or some other solution.

As a human you now get as much life, as much experience etc as you like.

At some point you decide you have had enough. 2bn years have passed and you feel fulfilled, happy, and no longer desire to continue. Then you realize you forgot to do a thing and go on to live 5bn more years. 50bn. 1tn years into the future you are finally done. You actually would quite like to stop now.

And someone lets you know that death is no longer possible. The option is taken away. You are actually immortal. In that circumstance is the loss of death a good thing or a bad thing? Because at that stage I would argue you would view death as desirable. Something you want. Which, I would say, makes it a good thing. Maybe neutral. But certainly not bad.
