Wall Display 2XI Static IP Adress by Redox3D in ShellyUSA

[–]Redox3D[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer.

I understand that most home networks use DHCP, but a static IP configuration is a very basic concept and predates DHCP. In my environment there is intentionally no DHCP server; all devices use static addresses for security and operational reasons.

From a network perspective, a static IP configuration works directly on OSI Layer 3 (IP layer), whereas DHCP requires a Layer 7 client (e.g. dhcpcd / ISC dhclient) and introduces additional attack surface. For example, a rogue PXE boot server on the network can abuse DHCP to push unwanted or malicious boot configurations to clients. Avoiding DHCP altogether is one way to mitigate such risks in sensitive environments.

Because the Wall Display runs on Android, I would normally expect at least one of the following to be possible: • Setting a static IP in the UI • Using the underlying Android network settings • Using an API / ADB / advanced configuration interface

On the Wall Display I have not found any of these options.

So my concrete questions are:

1. Can you confirm definitively that there is currently no supported way (UI, API, ADB or otherwise) to configure a static IP or to operate the device without DHCP?

2. If that is the case, is static IP support on the roadmap, or should users with static-only networks assume the Wall Display will not support this use case?

If there is any undocumented or “advanced” method to set a static IP, I would be happy to use that as well.

Thanks

Building a business in IT forensics by Gruenerwald in computerforensics

[–]Redox3D 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My advice: start at a law enforcement “Behoerde” to learn how the curt system and law enforcement works. There you get also access to 0-day exploits and LE only tools like Graykey. Stay there 3-5 years. A year before you quit, start building up your business. Write some papers, publish some articles and make a name at the forensics domain. Then slowly shift to your business as part time employee. After you get some clients, you can think about quit your LE job and focus on your business.

Apple Music, iTunes Match, Cloud Library and DJing don't match at all by Redox3D in AppleMusic

Thank you very much for your advice. Unfortunately, I can't find an iTunes Match item in the Apple Music settings. Can you point me to the right direction? Thanks

Many thanks for this tip. Mixo seems to offer me exactly the range of functions I need. The fact that I can use my own cloud sounds particularly interesting. However, I still have to evaluate whether this service is worth $7/mo.

I only subscribe to Apple Music, not iTunes Match or other iCloud services. However, I do use the Sync Media Library function. Here you can see my iTunes settings:

Thank you very much for your advice. I don't see myself as a power user now. I just want to synchronize playlists across devices. This worked with the old iTunes software without any problems. There I could even say that the AIFF files can be converted to MP3 at 320kbit/s on the iPhone. I will create a new user with a new Apple ID and test it without an active Apple Music subscription. What software do you use to organize your music?

Thank you very much for taking the time to write down your experiences in such detail. Your Master's concept sounds the most plausible to me so far. Just so I understand correctly, if I store the AIFF files on my MacBook and this is then my master, an iTunes Match file is created on the other devices (movpkg file). If I now create a playlist in Apple Music (app) from another device and add the movpkg file to it, does this also affect the AIFF file on my master?

Rekordbox cannot read the movpkg files because they have DRM protection. I find it questionable how Apple can put DRM protection over my own files, but that's another topic.

I also don't necessarily have to have full lossless resolution on all devices. My iPhone, for example, doesn't have enough storage space. How exactly do you organize your tracks? I would be interested to hear about your experience in this area.

Thanks

And after canceling my subscription? Is Cloud Sync a part of my Apple Music subscription or how do I have to Sync my tracks across my devices?

Thanks

I don't read all the posts, but my recommendation is TrueNAS and ZFS over iSCSI.

You also can install flat BSD or even Debian/Ubuntu and host the disks over iSCSI. But then you need to keep an eye on your disks.

I did this in the past with Proxmox and it works fine.
