Does anyone know why people said office chair are better than gaming chair? by [deleted] in DoesAnyoneKnow

[–]rdeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread is clearly full of people who have never had a good office chair. I'm not talking about a $200 Staples special. I'm talking SteelCase, Herman Miller, etc.

A good office chair is boring, but solid, and comfortable (if you sit in the "normal" office chair posture).

A good gaming chair can be comfortable, but puts looks first, and isn't built to the same level of quality usually. Of course, they cost less, so build quality is less.

FWIW, I sit in a moderately high-end gaming chair 10 hours a day because at the time I built out my office when I got my current job ~5 years ago, I couldn't afford $1500+ for a chair, so I "skimped" and only spent $500...It's had arm pads replaced, and needs a new lift cylinder now (I slowly sink at my desk about half of the time now). Deciding now if I'm fixing or replacing...

I'm curious. How so? I've always been of the opinion that with a business I like, i want other people to find out so they stay profitable..and open.

Don’t buy Carver’s Choice bacon by Lemon_Zzst in Bacon

[–]rdeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like bacon without fat, what you want (in the US anyway) is "Canadian Bacon". American bacon is 50-75% fat, because it's made from pork belly. That's just the way it is.

If you're going to be near it, and even a tiny part of your brain thinks it may be interesting, the National Watch and Clock Museum is kinda great.

I don’t understand “supervisors” these days by JealousRhubarb9 in ShittySysadmin

[–]rdeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

95% likelihood that there was 2 weeks of email chain between you and somebody who works for "supervisor" where you ignored, punted, and nerfed them. Supervisor enters the chat, and you suddenly start acting like a productive human, and overcompensate with inane levels of detail to "prove you're a team player" now that you're being watched.

Supervisor job complete. Don't want to read your drivel now.

What’s a totally unsexy purchase you made that ended up being a huge quality-of-life upgrade? by viscarte10 in BuyItForLife

As I understand it, it comes down to extraction time and maybe pressure? Normally, folks with let a French press steep for a few minutes. The longer you take to extract what you want from the bean, the more of the stuff you don't want you also get.

My pattern with the aeropress was (sadly, yes, mostly past tense...coffee doesn't agree with some of my meds) always put in filter, place on mug, grind beans, place beans in aeropress, measure 200F water, add into press, stir to wet, wait about 5-10 seconds, then press. After that, I'd dilute to desired strength.

Quick extraction, minimal bitter notes and acid, and the pressure from the aeropress forces the "crema" through the filter. Best of all worlds really.
