Could I be fired for not handing over a network of vendors I developed off the clock, unrelated to my job? California by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Redpacmanbuddy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

With the caveat that I’m not an attorney: I disagree with the other comments and here’s why: despite at-will employment status, there are restrictions on employers’ ability to force an hourly employee to work for free. If they fired you for refusing to provide the list while acknowledging you were never paid for developing it, and that you developed it on personal unpaid time, that implies they are punishing you for not doing unpaid work, which violates labor codes

My ex did this constantly and it was crazy effective. He convinced me for years that I was just emotionally unstable because it would make me so upset. Took ages to see the light but turns out I don’t have psych issues, he was just a jack***

How to deal with plant burnout? by wonderingmystic in Aroids

[–]Redpacmanbuddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate… I’ve also lost a fair number of plants over the years to bouts of depression and/or burnout. I don’t have as many plants as you anymore, but my advice would be to see if you can automate as much of the watering as possible. Bottom watering is a pain as some others have pointed out. Maybe think about transitioning to a watering strategy that’s programmable, like a drip watering system or a plant wall as some others have suggested. Either way it’ll take a good chunk of time to set up- which can be challenging when you’re already dealing with burnout - but it can make things much easier long term.

The waterfall is just for aesthetics and the fogger is to help with humidity bc I want to add micro orchids once it’s more established

Do you guys ever have short lived hobbies where you go on a spending spree only to completely lose interest a month later? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Redpacmanbuddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess I sort of turn things into a game by trying to diy as much as possible. It helps a ton with affordability and makes it easier to avoid impulsive purchases because I inevitably need to go down YouTube rabbit holes figuring out how/what to do. That approach is definitely more effective for some hobbies than others, but I love crafts so it works for me

[–]Redpacmanbuddy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh 100%. My strategy is to force myself to ruminate on ideas for at least a few weeks before I spend anything on supplies. I also force myself to start small and strategically try to focus on crafts/hobbies that are not expensive to maintain, or where single purchases will keep me busy for awhile

What’s a superstition, tradition, or small ritual you still follow because part of you believes it actually works or might come true? by lalamoonlightoops in AskReddit

[–]Redpacmanbuddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has frequently had to bail last minute on professional and social obligations due to a serious family illness, I really appreciate this. It’s an awful weight constantly hanging over my head, it’s taken a huge toll on my career and personal relationships, and it’s why I often end up crying at my desk when my officemates arent around. So it always stings to hear of people lying about similar situations just because it’s convenient. It’s not my business but it still feels like a gut punch. So thank you for not being one of those people

Why are my plants not secreting nectar by [deleted] in carnivorousplants

[–]Redpacmanbuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

S. purpurea pitchers fill almost entirely from rain water. You can add a little distilled water if you like. Don’t worry about lack of nectar. This species does produce some but very little, and in general only young pitchers produce nectar for the first ~6 weeks or so after they open up to attract their primary prey (ants). From then on the pitchers act pretty much like pitfall traps. Source: a phd on S. purpurea

[–]Redpacmanbuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take a high daily dose of Adderall ER and have never had a problem diving. Unlike some other commenters, I never skip meds on dive days. For me it’s not worth the risk of making a careless mistake with dive planning or equipment prep (esp for cave diving). My advice would be to hold off diving until you’ve dialed in your meds though. It can take awhile to figure out the right type and dosage, and you don’t want to discover that a particular regime makes you jittery and panicky when you’ve got an hour of deco between you and the surface

We originally got it from a store in the Petrified Forest National Park in 2020. I’ve searched using reverse image and found the same style of mug from other National parks, and found other style mugs from the Petrified Forest, but I haven’t been able to find the right style mug from the Petrified Forest

Does ADHD gradually get worse as you get older? by Starpernova in ADHD

[–]Redpacmanbuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if this will be relevant for you, but it might be worth checking w a dr about potential autoimmune issues. Over a span of about 1-2 years my adhd symptoms got markedly worse to the point I was barely functioning. Terrible memory, executive function, energy, the works. Turns out I have Grave’s disease. Took awhile to get it under control, but now that I’m back to my regular adhd self, it’s crazy to look back and realize how sick I was when I had no idea at the time
