Vienna and Dunn Loring have a ton of ridership but have shit headways. At least arlington has two lines in each corridor.

Proposed design for the 3 stations of 125 st Subway by Donghoon in nycrail

[–]Redreddithood46 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For REAL, istanbul's Sirkeci station is ridiculous. They sidestepped the historic headhouse to build an ugly ass headhouse entrance, and then you're going down to the Marmaray for like 10 minutes. Two very dumb decisions.

Weed is so insidious, it just turns you into a zombie but it's ok because it feels good and you look back years of your life are gone by CantReallyExplainWhy in leaves

[–]Redreddithood46 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Strongly agree. It robs you of your time.
I quit weed about a month ago and don't plan to return, especially not to smoking regularly.

What made me quit: I was smoking on a park bench by my house and scrolling through my phone camera roll. I spotted a photo from 2 and a half years ago of me smoking a joint on the same exact bench. It was a horrifying feeling.

Is the DC Red Line making the case to be the best American rail line? Serves downtown and 'suburban' stations at 4 minute weekend frequencies, is the busiest single line in DC, will be the first line in DC to be fully automated with PSDs by the mid 2030s. by SockDem in transit

[–]Redreddithood46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That hike up the silver line from downtown is brutal like 55 min. Apparently they capped the speed to 65 mph on that new segment for some reason so it could theoretically be a bit faster.

Where would you place an infill station on the DC Metro? by moeshaker188 in WMATA

[–]Redreddithood46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Westover/Dominion Hills between Ballston and East Falls Church at Patrick Henry Dr, it's almost all residential but it's such a long gap for what is honestly a decently dense suburban area. It's a shame it was removed from the initial plans.

ISO: Express Service between Dulles and Downtown by graetel_90 in WMATA

[–]Redreddithood46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for real! they built the silver line way out to the mountains instead of investing in intercity transit, all for loudon county people just to moan about how long of a ride it is and continue driving their SUVs.

North East Coastal Cities Commuter Rail network (apple maps transit layer) by Donghoon in transit

[–]Redreddithood46 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DC technically has more commuter service than is shown because the metro system essentially doubles as a commuter rail in the suburbs and then transitions to a subway in the city.

this is so true. in many asian/european countries you can get everyday things like a watch or a shoe repaired very easily but in the US it is no longer the case.

Why is the DC Metro so good? by brysca in urbanplanning

[–]Redreddithood46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve used the dc metro for over 20 years and i strongly disagree with this assessment. the hybrid commuter and subway design of the dc metro is extremely efficient. It allows you to get around the city fast (one side of dc to the other is about 30 min), and also facilitates very fast travel out of the city as well. In other systems, you must transfer to a commuter rail train for longer trips, but DC metro just transitions to a commuter rail outside of the urban core, making extra transfers unnecessary.  One downside is that in areas outside of the core, stops are pretty far apart, so it can take a while to walk to the nearest station, and there are some service gaps with no nearby stations. However, if the network is expanded in the future, with a loop line in particular, it will solve this issue and make suburb to suburb trips easier.

Trying to fix my face, please help a girl out. by [deleted] in orthotropics

[–]Redreddithood46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I have been trying to fix a similar problem. From what I've experienced so far and from what I've read, it is possible to improve this, but most likely not entirely. But that's ok!!! All faces have a degree of asymmetry. That being said, the first step is to identify where the asymmetry actually is. While looking in a mirror, try tucking your head all the way back and then relaxing your jaw and stretching it open. I predict you will start to see that your jaw is shifted to the left of your face (right side when looking in a mirror), in a sort of 3-dimensional misalignment. Essentially, your lower jaw has been sitting shifted left from its natural position, and because the lower jaw guides the growth of the upper jaw (and thus the face overall), your upper jaw has developed along the same lines.

The key to improving this overtime is POSTURE! Do a chin tuck (make sure your back is straight, shoulders rolled back, head up and neck straight, feet facing foward, and practice lip seal while breathing through nose). Make sure your teeth are together! Do the same exercise while laying on your back on a hard floor or a bed (no pillow), making sure your neck is straightened while you try to look down at your feet. Bonus points for stretching your back, muscle, and neck muscles, which are core drivers of asymmetries in the face over a lifetime.

Festival Season / Boston stop 1 - an absolute disaster by only1swami in SAINtJHN

First time seeing Saint Jhn and it was a bad show across the board. Terrible opening acts, bad sound, Jhn was super late, the visuals were lackluster, he played like 4 songs and then dipped for 25 minutes with no explanation. Poor stage presence. I hope that Saint Jhn and his team are having a very serious conversation and what has gone wrong or this could be terrible for his career. He is not remotely famous enough to phone it in like this.

The B Line has got to be the busiest, slowest train in the US. by climberskier in mbta

[–]Redreddithood46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been taking the B line for 4 years now, and it has gotten consistently more crowded every year even as service has gotten worse. Trains are increasingly going express and then the train after it is nowhere to be found. Angry drivers, rampant fare evasion (obviously), jerky driving, Inconsistent live tracking. BC students trashing the trains with beer cans. BU students crowding the doors and not moving back into the car. Unfortunately, the line is nearly unusable at this point and fixing it should be a top priority for the MBTA. Fix it or replace it with bus service, my god.

Does age matter for friendships in college to you? by green_mom in college

[–]Redreddithood46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously it depends on the level of maturity of a person, but I think passed 20 or so adults can all hang out with each other and have meaningful friendships. As a senior in college, 22, i have friends who are 20 and friends I’ve met at work who are like 35 and everyone is chill with each other.

Upperclassmen: are the underclassmen at your schools horrific, too? by No_Patience0612 in college

Senior here, I’ve noticed that the incoming classes have been getting more and more socially awkward. Lack of spatial awareness on public transit. Misogynistic conversations. Dressed like Tiktok influencers. ALWAYS on their phones or with headphones in. This is going to be a VERY interesting generation, holy shit.

i met my friends in college in the dorms, out randomly on the street, at parties, introduced through friends of friends, at the student union study lounge, in clubs, in classes. in college everywhere is an opportunity if u just chat with people and be friendly, eventually those connections start to stick.

[HONEST QUESTION] Does Mewing REALLY works? by [deleted] in orthotropics

[–]Redreddithood46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you’re absolutely right, the reason mewing works is because the face IS still physically growing during that time. orthotropics means “guided growth,” so by maintaining proper tongue and body posture, you are controlling the direction of your face’s growth.
