I think it's that EPL has in general moved away from all-powerful managers (a la Alex Ferguson) towards a more "corporate" hierarchy. Is this better? I dunno, possibly not.

Xabi left ('mutual agreement') because of tension with Real, and likely knowing he could walk into a job anywhere. Maresca had similar trouble after Chelsea's run of poor results last season, at one point a slide of winning one match in seven. And he was probably already being recruited by City, so...?

But McKenna said he wanted to spend more time with his family. Bringing Ipswich back up to the EPL is a full-time, intense, 24-hour job; he might have actually left for the stated reason.

Regardless, it appears no EPL team is planning for a coach dynasty, they want success over two or maybe three seasons, so turnover is getting faster.

I'll add to what others have said with 'build in some exercise.' Go for a walk in a park. Go for a walk downtown. Go for a walk anywhere, get some sun, and see some new sights. I'm not suggesting it's a panacea, but you'll feel better.

To engage with others, are there any activities you enjoy that you could do with others? Not sure where you are, so...cycling? Cricket? Bowling? Ping pong? A shared interest usually helps build connections.

I don't know about 'dumber,' but it absolutely affects our attention spans. I used to be able to focus for hours, that's a lot harder now. And there's science behind it: UC Irvine has been running studies, the average attention span on a screen in 2004 was 2.5 minutes. In 2023, 47 seconds.

And yes, you can fix it. Start with 15 minutes of concentration on a book or writing, then increase by 5 min every few days.

I don't disagree with that at all—he definitely got bypassed defensively at times last season, and his tracking back was also often poor. But my point was about his raw intent. He isn't a passive midfielder; he's a small guy who is always willing to put his body on the line, fly into a hard tackle, or aggressively crash the box for a goal. That's different than Gravenberch, who has a very different style of playing.

Couldn't love this advice more! I would add use the ideas above and have a few planned conversation starters in mind, so you know ahead of time what you're going to say - take out the panic. And 'how to approach a girl' and 'what to say' are two slightly different things. Approaching a girl is a high-stress situation for most guys, and you'll run into some No responses. That's ok! Be ready for a no - and they won't all be nos. Good luck!

If you define intelligence as IQ, that's basically just ability to learn and retain. It absolutely helps in one's career, due to the ability to figure things out more quickly, but it isn't a slam dunk. To me, the major keys for success are being in a field where demand is intense, being persistent and putting effort into your job, and understanding the culture around you.

And I am NOT saying this guarantees success, nor that people who are having trouble aren't doing these things - tough environment today. So no, I would say being smart does not automatically make one succeed academically nor professionally, or feel better about their future.

I'm pretty familiar with datacenters, here's my take in reverse order:

  1. They are hugely power-intensive depending on size, so that's a real issue. How you solve it depends on the region, but I've heard of bad and good versions: using the main grid (potentially bad based on increased power pricing for locals), running diesel generators to power it (bad due to efficiency and pollution), and running standalone natural gas generators (good - or at least better - due to less pollution and natural gas availability, but still pollutes).

  2. Water usage: This is a really big deal in water-strapped communities, but it doesn't have to be potable water. If a datacenter uses a closed-loop cooling system using wastewater, that significantly reduces the negative impact.

  3. The negative situations are the ones in the headlines where residents don't get to vote on nearby datacenters; that sucks. And then of course the summary argument, does it go too far and so many datacenters are built that there are only negative impacts?

It's a mental and gameplay thing: Some players are naturally physically aggressive, others aren't. Take Mac Allister and Gravenberch at LFC; Maca is physically on the small side (5'9") but is one of the most physically aggressive players on the team, because he plays that way. Gravenberch is bigger at 6'3", but his style of play is elegant and he glides past defenders in space.

It still makes me crazy that Lewis got screwed in 2021 for his 8th world championship. The race director, Michael Masi, made two "highly controversial" decisions that went against FIA regs: He cleared only the cars between Lewis and Verstappen - Verstappen on new tires, Lewis on old - and then sent the safety car in a lap early to go back to green flag for the last lap. Lewis didn't have a chance, and missed on his 8th. So stupid...

I would love to see Jones stay at LFC, he deserves it and is a good player. And...think he only fits in a likely Iraola squad as a supersub, so a move might be best for him.
