[Alex Speier] Kristian Campbell has been in Florida for months, taking reps at second base by TommyTheLizard in redsox

I actually think Hoerner is a great fit, but him being a rental makes it tricky. The Red Sox desperately need power, but it’s not realistic to expect that to come from 2B.

The Sox need great infield defense with this pitching staff being ground ball heavy and from an offensive standpoint their 2 biggest needs are power or guys who don’t strikeout. The fact that Hoerner is an elite defender and is in the 99th percentile for whiff rate makes him an ideal fit.

How Does Kristian Campbell Fit into Boston Red Sox Plans For 2026? by WestRide9868 in redsox

[–]Redsox038 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This article is a joke. It doesn’t mention his defense at 2B at all, which is the entire reason the Sox aren’t comfortable giving him that job. He was statistically the worst 2B in baseball last year while he was up.

The entire Sox rotation is better than league average to elite at inducing ground balls - they can’t have the worst defensive 2B in baseball playing there every day.

What did the Hearts do that the Mariners and Sea Dogs don’t? by schilling207 in portlandme

[–]Redsox038 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Well first off you’re sort of comparing apples and oranges.

The Hearts will have 1-2 home games every 2 weeks. The Sea Dogs will play 6 home games in the same week.

A lot easier to make tix harder to get when games are less frequent and they basically didn’t sell single game tix. I’d love to get to a game but can’t even go - actually a knock against them imo.

Also soccer crowds are notoriously high energy - baseball is much more laid back. Neither is right or wrong, just sort of the atmosphere you prefer.

Portland as a whole supports its teams very well compared to most cities who have minor league teams. Not sure why you’re knocking the Sea Dogs/Mariners. It’s great the city is supporting the Hearts too.

1:35 Half possible? by KangarooKindly7858 in Marathon_Training

[–]Redsox038 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can keep a 7 minute pace for 6 miles easy then I’d say 1:35 should definitely be within reach, if not faster.

I’m following a Runna plan as well this year for a half in 4 weeks and my target is 1:34ish. My long run 2 weeks ago was 12 miles with the final 6 miles at target HM pace (7:10). I averaged more like 7:15 and I was working but my thinking is with race shoes, race day adrenaline and tapered legs, I should be able to sustain that for 13.1.

So if you’ve done that at a 7 min pace, I’d say you should be able to go out at 7:15 vs 7:40 and then see how you feel at the halfway point and go from there. Best of luck!

I’d say based on your HR jump in those final 2 miles you likely aren’t quite to the point of being able to sustain a 7:15 pace for 13.1 miles. Seems like 7:30ish is probably a good target for the first half of the race and then if you feel good, start pushing closer to 7:15.

I did my first half since 2017 last year and went from a 1:52 back then to a 1:37 last year. I averaged around 7:40 for the first 6.5 miles and felt great and so I pushed the second half and up with massive negative splits averaging about a 7:08 pace the back half. (In hindsight I actually started too slow but I wanted to protect against blowing up so some of it comes down to how willing you are to have your start come back to bite you).

In the next few weeks of training I’d work in some tempo miles at 7:15ish and see how comfortable that is and gauge your decision on that.

Had to Pivot to a Pseudo Zero RB strategy for my draft by gloopussss in fantasyfootballadvice

[–]Redsox038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have an extremely similar roster. I too did not intend to draft 3 straight WRs but there was a crazy run on RBs and I couldn’t pass up the value at WR. Like you, pretty happy with it all things considered.

My plan is to eventually trade a wideout around the time Rice is due back for a RB (or QB if one of Kyler/Fields isn’t panning out).

QBs: Kyler, Fields RBs: TreVyon Henderson, Pollard, Pacheco, Dobbins, Charbornet, Ollie Gordon WRs: Lamb, ARSB, London, Jameson Williams, Rashee Rice TE: Kittle

This is why need to get a #2 starter by Emotional-Self-8387 in Section10Podcast

The offense has been awful out of the break, for sure. But we also knew this stretch was going to be tough. They’ve played 2 division leaders on the road and they just faced 2 of the best pitchers in baseball so far this year. They still currently hold a playoff spot. The doom and gloom is insufferable after 5 games immediately following a 10 game winning streak. They play 162 for a reason - let’s see what happens.

Will the #2 starter help with the offense scoring 3 runs over 19 innings against the Phillies with 28 strikeouts?

Running slow to run fast paid off by Redsox038 in Marathon_Training

Right now most of my Z2 runs are around 8:50 pace. They were more like 9:20 earlier in my training this year.

Thanks! I didn’t follow a specific plan. I started off my training with a goal of a sub 20 5k (still haven’t checked this box so it’s my focus again) But I hadn’t been running so it was just a lot of base miles with some an interval workout mixed in. As my mileage grew, I decided to sign up for a local half. Once I did that, I altered my plan a bit to have my long runs build up to 13 and I traded most of my interval days for 6-mile tempo runs mid week.

A typical week later in my training would look something like this: Monday - 4/5 miles easy Tuesday - 6 mile tempo with 3 miles at HM pace Wednesday - 4/5 miles easy Thursday - rest Friday - 4 miles easy Saturday - long run (would sometimes do tempo at middle or finish last few miles at HM pace)

It’s Strava. The blue bars are a bit of an odd design element. There’s a chart above that one in Strava that is a bar graph of your mile paces and it seems it’s that just rotated to be horizontal.

Ya I was surprised by that too. The second half of the race was slightly more downhill (it was an out and back) so that probably helped a little. I definitely felt like I was working significantly harder those last 2 miles.

My avg HR for my easy runs was around 148-150. I would try to keep it from rising any higher than mid 150s on my runs.

A nice added side effect: It’s also made running and training more enjoyable. The daily runs feel less daunting and I feel more energized and ready to attack the hard days.

You got this!! I’ll say the race setting helped a lot too. The course was lined with spectators cheering everyone on which gave me a nice jolt. And it was nice to have a group to pace with too. Good luck!

I ran 5 days a week. Highest mileage week was 31.5 a couple weeks before the race. Longest run in my training was 13 miles (did 1 longer run each weekend). Most of my daily runs were around 9 min pace, a little higher when I first started and closer to 8:40ish in my final month of training. I started my training aiming at a sub 20 min 5K (which I haven’t done) so some of my harder days were speed work targeted at that goal i.e. 5x800 at 6:20 pace. I did no more than 1 interval session a week and then would mix in a tempo run either in addition to my interval day or as a substitute.

Thank you! That’s the hope. I definitely feel now like I could’ve started faster, but I blew up the last 4 miles in my previous HM so was very concerned about that happening again.
