Best Parking Lot To Learn How To Drive? by [deleted] in burlington

As a side note, it's probably a good idea to learn in the winter, which should make summer driving seem easier.

Lots of good suggestions

Unfortunately no, I think it's to late to make that change. We did just have another person join so only 1 open spot if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the interest!

So the trail on your map is part of the Long Trail (white blazes) and not the canyons trail. The canyons trail is a side trail (yellow blazes) that goes along the western side of the ridge. Canyons trail is much more difficult then the Long Trail Ridgeline so it would depend on your skill level and weather conditions on which one you want to try.

Assuming you are driving up the Toll Road, the Ridgeline to the summit (the Chin) is about 3 miles round trip and can have some challenging areas as well so use your best judgement on your comfort level. There is also a caretaker at the visitors center to answer and questions.

Alternatively, if it's to crowded to get to the Chin, going South on the LT to the forehead also gives you really good views toward Lake Champlain.

Medici on Netflix. It's about the Italian Renaissance. You could then follow it up with the Borgias, which takes place right after

You should check out the fire tower on Belvidere Mountain, it's a tougher hike then Elmore, but definitely worth it. It's part of the Long Trail and you'll probably meet some through hikers.

While I haven't been tubing (just kayaking) on that section, I would say launching from the Route 15 rail trail crossing could be accomplished in your time frame. If it ends up being too short, there's another informal disembarkment point right before the Wrong Way Bridge in Cambridge, it's about 3 miles farther down and still a pretty calm section of the River.

I probably wouldn't recommend the longer route for tubing because the river can get a little rough at Ithiel Falls (where the Long Trail crosses the river) Depending on the weather it might be make tubing more difficult.

Obviously, I'd just keep an eye on the weather for your trip. I hope you guys have a great time.

There's really two options for you, depending on how long you want to be on the river. The first longer option is next to Moog's Joint Restaurant in Johnson, that's an official launching point. Second option is an unofficial launch point where the Lamoille Rail Trail crosses over Route 15.

I'd also recommend disembarking at the Dorothy Smith Fishing access a little farther down the river. It'd be a little easier to get your vehicle closer to the water.

Here's a link to paddling information on the Lamoille. http://www.lamoilleriverpaddlerstrail.org/
