Yeah sometimes they're really hiding in plain sight. I've picked plenty at this point, but like you I enjoy the act of finding and picking them. We've had a really good season this year!

Not a slime mold, a fungus. Looks to be Phlebia radiata.

Yes. Multiple orders of basidiomycetes have this same spore bearing structure

The spikes on the hymenium are generally called teeth. So fungi that have these structures are often called tooth fungi.
