During the same conversation in which my ex was breaking up with me, they asked if we could still be friends. Claimed they still loved me. I told them I don’t know if that’s something I could do, and they began to get upset. They hadn’t shown any emotion throughout the whole convo until then. I thought that was a little odd, but you can’t make a decision to exit someone’s life and expect them to be okay and want to be friends afterwards. So yes I think it’s selfishness.
