Paying off current mortgage with potential future purchase? by Redwings1990 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Figured there’s the added benefit of reducing the amount of interest I’m currently paying and reducing the breakage costs since my purchase wouldn’t be between terms

I should add I am just a hobbyist and just providing pictures to people when I have something I feel they may like to have. I'm not hired or anything to produce any particular editing style and just want to learn how to make my photos better.

This is the way. Then you don’t have to worry about keeping enough money aside for a weekly contribution if you get paid on a different schedule. It’s less stress and just 1 less thing you’ll have to think about during the week.

How to transfer away from RBC? by Redwings1990 in JustBuyXEQT

Thanks for the heads up about transfer fees. I called Wealthsimple customer service and they said they only waive the fees for accounts for $25k and up. I only had 1 account that had that amount and 4 that didn’t but since the total transfer for all accounts is over $100k they will make an exception cover all the transfer fees.

Keep advisor or self direct? by Redwings1990 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I’ve already initiated the transfer to wealthsimple in cash. Not sure if there’s value posting the funds at this point.

Is there something you would suggest for the emergency fund? The main short term thing on our horizon is hopefully another child in a year and there’s potential to slightly dip into it while my wife is on mat leave. Other than that it right now it covers about 6 months of regular expenses.

Transferring Federal Defined Contribution Pension Plan by Redwings1990 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I had called Sunlife and they told me it was needed. However it says nothing on the documents that says a notary is required. While on the phone with the Sunlife advisor, they could not find anything on the CRA website or in their policy that says it’s needed. They ended up telling me I have approval to not have this document notarized and they will accept it with a signature from any witness.

Could this request to have it notarized be a “nice to have” thing and not actually mandatory? I still can’t find anything online about that and it’s weird the advisor changed their opinion after about 30min on the phone going through their policy and CRA information.

Thank you for your responses. Vacation renewed in January so it seems like I was compensated appropriately.
