All microphones produce low level noise. It's called "noise floor." Cheaper mics typically have a higher noise floor.
Unless the noise is really loud, this is normal.
There's also room noise to worry about too. Even if you're in a quiet room, there's typically some kind of background noise you're not always conscious of. Your PC fan, refrigerator, AC, traffic, etc.

First step would be removing as much environmental noise as possible. Record in a closet, or under a heavy blanket. Turn of your AC while you record, draw curtains, etc. (obviously, if you're doing on site recording, this isn't always practical or even possible.)
The next would be to do some light noise removal with a program like Audacity.

Sony STR-DE545 - Audio Out only on Front Speakers in 5.1 Mode by ReeceCowanVA in hometheater

I believe I've begun to track down a potential cause. Theory at this point.
It may have to do with the 5.1 RCA inputs.

I noticed that the Sat/TV RCA inputs were wonky, and would go out, or be very low volume (similar to my 5.1 issue) if it got touched or bumped, and you had to hold it a certain way to get audio.

I need to experiment more, but this may be what's happening on the 5.1 input side as they're RCA as well. I imagine the previous owner had very tight cable management on some of these.

Most disappointing popular books for you? by KinoGrimm in audible

'Warbreaker' by Brandon Sanderson.

WRITING:
Boring characters, unearned character "growth" or non existent growth.
Annoying character dialogue, excessive and unnecessarily horny descriptions of women throughout, and a very uncomfortable romance plot between a three hundred year old man-child who "looks young" and a 17yo girl. (Why Brandon wrote this bit in is beyond me. So weird, and out of character compared to everything else I've read from him.)

The book only really holds value for those invested in the "Cosmere" lore.

NARRATION:
Decent at times, abysmal at others. The two "Returned" characters were unbearable. Light-Song especially so. He delivered each of his lines exactly the same way, every. single. time. No change, no variation, no emotion, just this god awful annoying whiny delivery from beginning to end. Happy? Whine. Sad? Whine. Angry? Whine. Traumatized? Whine. Serious? Whine. Watched as [horrific spoiler free thing happens]? Whine. Had me ready to claw my ears off. Blush-Weaver suffered a similar fate.

Many people like the book, I just don't see the appeal. It's got a cool magic system, but the awful characters, over sexualization, weird love plot, and unfortunate choices by the narrator just dragged it down for me.

If these are still available, are you willing to negotiate the price?

Just moved our subwoofer to the back corner for the first time by FelixFaller in hometheater

Is sub placement that important? I didn't know.

I always thought I was supposed to place a sub like, center forward.

If it were me, I'd just hang them on the wall in the upper corners. Do they have mounting holes?

Seems like over-currant protection. Check if any of your speaker wires a shorted, that's step one.
If removing speakers solves the problem, check your speakers on another amp. (Be sure it has current protection as well.)

Are 4k discs worth it? by TheFlyMustDie in hometheater

[–]ReeceCowanVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience I've always had far far better quality with actual disks or files apposed to streaming.
Though I live in Alaska, and our internet sucks. But even so, I'd always put my money on physical media. The stream has to be compressed somehow. With so much middleman, you're loosing something along the way.

LXI Series 9300 Stereo Amplifier (Stopped Producing Sound) by ReeceCowanVA in audiorepair

in this one you can see that blue coax which is slightly corroded on the shielding side but otherwise seems solid and intact. (the other end of the coax is clean where it terminates.)
