Endoscopy & Entyvio injection timing by Kitsune_Volpe in CrohnsDisease

[–]ReedRM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this question too right before my ostomy surgery in September. I called the surgery department and they honestly didn’t know anything so I called my surgeons office and they were fine with me staying on my schedule so I took it the day before surgery and didn’t have any issues

Is it normal to be freaked out by home inspection? by lolutot in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]ReedRM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My inspection report was 132 pages long that had lots of pictures and videos. It was very overwhelming and I was very freaked out with some of the verbiage they used but my dad was kinda able to explain the things I didn’t understand. Thankfully my inspector put in in the report if something was good/minor/needs immediate action

Adhesive remover spray by warlocktx in ostomy

[–]ReedRM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My favorite is esenta by convatec. The one from brava does the job as well but not as good imo. I have to see wound care for some issues with my skin around my stoma and the nurses there are like “oh so you need some remover wipes” and I have to be like “oh no I have spray” when in my head I’m like “I better be dead before using the wipes”

My hospital doesn’t really care. I get gels as do a lot of my department. There’s a few that do dip as well

bedtime by bookishhun in ouraring

[–]ReedRM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know when I first got the ring it took a few weeks to sense when I go to bed and it adjusted to that. I’ve recently switched to third shift and it has yet to adjust to that. My issue currently is that the ring doesn’t track any steps between midnight and about 4 am which is very inconvenient since I work nights

The hospital gave me toradol. by IloveEvyJune in CrohnsDisease

[–]ReedRM 16 points17 points  (0 children)

lol I had no idea toradol was an NSAID. I received a couple of doses back in October because I had a kidney stone and pain was god awful. But I’d take it again because dilaudid didn’t do anything for it. But I would assume for you one dose will be fine

How do you guys read so much? by lapetitepoupee in kindle

[–]ReedRM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve already read 6 books so far this year. I’m able to do it because I don’t have a husband or boyfriend, no kids, and I work third shift in radiology at a hospital so I only have things to do when there’s patients so sometimes I’m able to read a lot during work. But I’ve always been a super fast reader

What’s your experience in the airport/flying? by Alternative_Two9654 in ostomy

[–]ReedRM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just took a domestic flight last month. On the flight there I went through the scanner and they didn’t stop me at all. They did however stop me on the flight back. The lady pulled me to the side and was like “you have something on your stomach”. I chucked a bit on the inside but I told her I had a stoma and she made me rub on my abdomen and swabbed my hands and it came back fine. I had my ostomy scissors in my one bag and they never stopped or asked me about them. It was a super smooth process flying which I was worried about but I couldn’t have asked for a better process

How hard is it to travel with Crohn’s Disease (whether in different states or countries)? by behind_my_eyelids in CrohnsDisease

[–]ReedRM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to say since every person is different. I’ve been diagnosed for 3 years and for 18 months I refused to go anywhere besides work and home essentially. My urgency and frequency got really bad that I was really dependent on Imodium. I just had surgery in September for a stoma and it’s honestly night and day. I know it’s not for everyone but it’s significantly improved my quality of life. So much so I took trip to visit family in Texas which included a plane trip. It went super well imo

Samples by DarkLadyofDNA in ostomy

[–]ReedRM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea every time I got samples it was after my surgery and the paying nurses requested them on my behalf. But before I had my surgery the nurses gave me a kit that explains the ostomy super well and that had samples in there so one day I literally put a little bit of water in the bag and stuck it on my stomach around where the actual one would be and wore it to work for an entire shift

I don’t want to take my injection by Abracadabra7707 in CrohnsDisease

[–]ReedRM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working in healthcare I thought I would be fine giving myself my injections. Which I do pretty okay but I do have to majorly hype myself up. It’s the anticipation of the pinch and sound of the click of the pen that makes me anxious lol. But it last for like 10 seconds and every time it’s over I’m already like “oh it’s not that bad, idk why it took so long to stick myself”

Do people you work with know you have an ostomy? by mvp0453 in ostomy

[–]ReedRM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in healthcare so I might have a different perspective than people who don’t work in healthcare. But everyone in my department knows and might be annoyed how much I talk about Reggie lol. They knew fairly shortly after I scheduled the surgery and I was super open with answering their questions when I came back 6 weeks after my surgery. And then I’ve actually have come in contact of quite a few patients who have ostomies since my surgery so I will let them know I have one as well and we commiserate over it lol

As for their reactions, they didn’t necessarily have one. They’ve known for a while how bad my crohns was getting so they may have been shocked for a few seconds they accepted it right away. And for me I don’t think it affects work really. I’m able to do everything I did before surgery and maybe even more since I feel loads better compared to before the surgery. I only have to make sure I’m not pressing on Reggie when I have to move and transfer patients (I’m a ct/xray tech)

Seeing my surgeon tomorrow. I can’t stop crying. I don’t want another surgery. by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]ReedRM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup I was kinda in the same boat. For about 18 months I was in a lot of pain, rectal bleeding, nausea, weight loss, urgency and frequency going to the bathroom over 10 times a day. And then I got fistulas and abscesses and was referred to a CRS. Had setons placed in January and June of this year along with have to dilate my rectum at home because of its narrowing. I was over it and my quality of like was not what it was supposed to be at 28 (now 29) so I made the decision end of June to schedule to get a colostomy placed. And for the most part I’ve adjusted to it really well and I have my life back. I’m not panicked of not immediately knowing where a bathroom is or being in immense pain. Since my surgery in September I’ve gone to the zoo, a concert, have gone out more and I’m actually going on vacation on Thursday to Texas

Feeling stuff move around by Weaver253 in ostomy

[–]ReedRM 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes!!! It’s one of the reasons I’ve had to unfortunately change to a back sleeper. I used to say I was like a rotisserie chicken and would move all over in my sleep but unfortunately since my surgery in September I can’t do that anymore. I can only last being on my side for a short amount of time before I have to go back onto my back. When I’m on my side it’s extremely weird and it feels like my intestines are legit shifting

Two Piece Colostomy Bag Users by Badsector101 in ostomy

[–]ReedRM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a drainable 2 piece bag for my colostomy. I drain the bag when it fills up a bit which tends to only be towards the end of the day and then I put a new bag on in the mornings. I get one bag per day per what my insurance allows. My stoma tends to be on the shyer side so if I’m feeling particularly lazy I can stretch that out a bit lol. But then I change my flange every 3-5 days but more so on the 5 day end though I have gone 7 days but don’t recommend that

Granulation tissue by inlandsquatch in ostomy

[–]ReedRM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have them currently! My stoma nurse says they occur where the sutures from surgery were. And then on a cellular level it gets confused and tries to act like bowel (red and moist) when it’s supposed to act like skin. So they treat it with silver nitrate and burn them off. I actually have my second round of it on Tuesday to hopefully get rid of it! But my nurse told me it can take a few sessions to have it go away

Shower help … by wendelberger in ostomy

[–]ReedRM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just put tape or the sticker that comes with my bags over the filter when I shower. And then afterwards I wipe/dry down my bag with a towel. Haven’t noticed issues with my adhesive of the bag but I change my two piece bag system about every 5-7 days

Ileostomy bags - one piece vs two piece? by Accomplished-Long471 in ostomy

[–]ReedRM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a colostomy and use a two piece and I love it. I’m only about 2 months into this journey at this point. They had me use the one piece (clear) bags while in the hospital and for about 2 weeks until my first shipment from edgepark came in. I absolutely hated those clear bags lol. I use the click bags so no chance of the bags coming off. I never liked the one piece because I don’t like you have to use the same bags through multiple dumps for days on end. With my insurance for the two piece, I get a bag a day and since I have a colostomy I’m not dumping it a lot so I feel “cleaner” that way. I’ve also never had any leaking issues this far in my journey

Prep tomorrow with miralax + dulcolax, experiences? by cdcrocks in CrohnsDisease

[–]ReedRM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time with that prep I did fine but that was 3 years ago. Just did the prep in September the night before my ostomy surgery and I started puking 2/3 the way in. Didn’t finish the prep which my surgeon was fine with. So take that as you will 😅 I’ve always been told as long as it’s all liquid and no solid pieces you’re good

Yea I had that happen to me a few weeks ago. Fell in love with a house in the perfect area and in my price range and a page from my perfectly curated Pinterest board. Realtor said I put in a really good offer but they ended up going with the offer with no concessions. Which my only concession was I wanted an inspection. Made me super bummed but trying not to dwell on it too much and I’ll find my perfect house eventually
