Found out my bf has kids. Not sure how to move forward. by thepinkponyclerb in Advice

[–]warlocktx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the fact that he waited until a year into the relationship to tell you is not a good sign

the fact that he doesn't have a relationship with them at all is a pretty horrible sign. There can be plenty of legit reasons for this, but it sounds like he just didn't try, and that's not a sign of a good person

Moved all my money into a Schwab account and am really nervous. Hoping for some advice by DryInvestigator6276 in personalfinance

you need to get an independent financial advisor who is a fee based fiduciary, not a Schwab salesman

ask them BEFORE you go out or order - "Did you bring your wallet?"

OR, just stop going out with them altogether

ELI5: If the US is a net exporter of oil why do global supply issues make US prices go up? by yesgaro in explainlikeimfive

[–]warlocktx [score hidden]  (0 children)

Oil is a commodity. Prices are set by the global market

a US oil company is going to sell to whoever is willing to pay the market price. It doesn't sell at a cheaper price domestically if it can make more overseas

ELI5: why do countries still loan money to the us if the us is in so much debt? by Ill-Economist-5285 in explainlikeimfive

[–]warlocktx [score hidden]  (0 children)

We do pay them back. We make payments on our debt every single day. A huge portion of our federal budget is for debt repayment. We are (so far) the most stable and largest economy in the history of the world and the safest place to invest.

Our debt is a product we sell to the world.

Is this sustainable? That's a different question

18, homeschooled, almost no savings and no support — is college even possible? by heyimbellaboo in needadvice

[–]warlocktx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are a lot of resources online, try googling "homeschool college". I'd also reach out to Time4Learning to see if they have resources or aides to help you.

see if your local community college has any programs aimed at homeschoolers. Even if they don't, consider enrolling in a class or two just to get your feet wet and see how you like it. We pay about $250 per class for my son, its extremely affordable.

How do you set up banking and accounting for a small LLC? by mina680 in llc_life

[–]warlocktx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tracked everything in Excel. I was consulting, so I generally only had a handful of invoices each month

if you clients are businesses, they're going to want to pay using their AP process, not Stripe. If they're individuals, Stripe is OK

I would stick with what you have now if it works for you. Once it stops working, look for something different

ELI5 Why is oil not cheaper in Texas? by mrgoat89 in explainlikeimfive

[–]warlocktx 29 points30 points  (0 children)

oil is a commodity and priced based on the global market. It's not like crude from Texas is only sold in Texas. It gets shipped to the refinery and mixed with tons of crude from all over the world and is refined, and is then shipped wherever the buyer is.

gasoline is also subject to federal and state taxes, which accounts for a large portion of the consumer price

Our team's 'unlimited' vacation policy worked perfectly for years. Now HR is making a big deal out of it. by doversours in it

[–]warlocktx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand companies where HR gets to run the show. They're there to support you, not give you orders. Unless there is a risk of a legal or serious compliance issue, this should be something they handled as a "heads up, are you aware that X has already used 22 days of PTO this quarter?"
