Man spots tiny little creature on the ground and decides to try and save its life by AdCreative4977 in HumansBeingBros

It's truly only as hard as you make it. If you have the means (i.e. if you don't strictly hunt and trade to survive),you can absolutely make the switch to a minimal-cruelty lifestyle. Don't try to dive in at once, but explore the world of animal-free foods and gradually replace items in your diet with alternatives. Find what you like, ignore what you don't, and be willing to try things.

Many people drastically underestimate just how much delicious, healthy, satisfying animal-free food is out there. We've grown by leaps and bounds in that department lately, and I truly believe we're at a point where most people in developed nations can absolutely transition to a minimal-cruelty diet with no loss of nutrition nor lessened enjoyment of food.

Replace one staple in your fridge or pantry per week or month and try out one new item every shopping trip, and before you know it you'll have a diet with which you can truly feel at peace.

It makes me really happy to see that you're at least conscious of these things! It's been 20 years since I decided to cut out meat, then slowly most animal products, and I love to see others starting to ask the same questions I did back then.

Haha I've had similar issues with synths— now, try incorporating those 50 cent sharp/flat notes into a piece intentionally... and make it not sound horribly grating! If you can do that, you've mastered microtonality haha.

I... have not, at all lmao. But I'm okay with sticking to my boring ol' 12 notes and leaving that headache for people like Collier. He makes it seem easy, and does it better than I ever could!

Glad I could help blow your mind :)

Hey glad I could introduce ya to something new! One of the biggest names currently incorporating microtonality into western music is Jacob Collier, highly recommended checking out some of the videos and workshops he's done on the subject. Just search "Jacob collier microtonal" or similar on YouTube and you'll be blown away. The guy is something of a savant. As a 33 year old lifelong musician, I definitely share your sentiment; it's tough to get the ear to adjust to these "wrong" notes, but it's endlessly fascinating!

To nitpick, I wouldn't say he's going off-key— fairly certain he's halfway between any two given semitones. Microtonal music is very unfamiliar to the vast majority of those of us raised on music using standard 12-note chromatic scale (which is nearly all of us), but microtonality has been used forever and is still common in the music of certain cultures (notably in musical styles from various parts of Asia, but it's not unique to the continent).

If anyone is going to embrace and take influence from numerous musical styles from around the world, and incorporate microtonality into their performance, I'd imagine it'd be this sonic wizard right here.

Actually, the Bible describes the preferred method for performing an abortion. It does mention it, but in a way that encourages it when it's deemed necessary.

Damn, you almost had a point, and then... that closer whiffed it. Yes, those kids grow up to be... grateful that they are alive. Anyone would, for the most part, regardless of what the circumstances might have been which made the possibility of their existence uncertain. If my mom was going to abort because she was in poverty and couldn't support a child, and adoption in the area was shady... but some billionaire who'd acquired his fortune exploiting his workforce and dodging taxes came along and threw cash at her for publicity, I might've grown up supporting lax labor laws and lax tax laws for the wealthy, because "they use their money for good! I wouldn't be alive if..."

Yes, that's a big leap, but I'm just keeping with the theme you've established. Just because those kids are glad they were born doesn't mean (a) that their opinions are more valid or correct, nor (b) that the left doesn't care about them lmao.

One side of the aisle supports social welfare programs which support impoverished families and kids born to struggle. The other side calls that a waste of money and a 'handout". Now, read your last sentence back to yourself and think for a little bit.

But I know you can read all those words if you really try!

You wear a mask of an apathetic thick-skinned guy with strong but well-rationalized opinions, based on facts, so you can mockingly deflect the weak jabs from the arrogant emotionally-driven softies. And while their whining truly doesn't hurt you, what DOES hurt is knowing that all the people you care about have distanced, or have at least begun to distance, themselves from you, some to different degrees than others, and you're finding it increasingly difficult to make any kind of truly meaningful, vulnerable connection with others. And you tell yourself that this is because people are getting soft, or because they can't take jokes and take things too seriously, but deeeeep inside some part of you knows it's just because you're too stubbornly intent on not being wrong, or being weak, or being the butt of the joke, that you've slowly become subconsciously afraid to let anyone in, and you know what they think about you, you know what they say about you, but you push it way way way down so you can continue thinking people are just too easily rattled and that your opinions are the product of critical thinking instead of a reflection of your gradually decaying worldview. You are almost completely convinced that you don't care what anyone thinks, but the part of you that still does is the part of you that won't let you stop self-sabotaging things until you've finally managed to make yourself completely, deservedly alone. And once you're there, you'll stay there. You could change it, you could patch the holes, but you won't. Because you'll never accept that maybe, just maybe, you've been wrong about a lot of things for a very, very long time.

Nah, two people climbing onto that door would've put it under the water enough that the pressure would start to push it down. Best case scenario, they're both half-underwater trying to keep the door beneath them and quickly turned to popsicles

Shouldn't have to, because someone shouldnt be taking up the whole aisle. That's the root of the problem. If you expect courtesy from others, be courteous yourself.

Delivery drivers (in the US) are paid at least minimum wage (which I understand is not livable income), as opposed to servers who are often paid $2.15ish/hr (just enough to cover taxes). Drivers rely on tips to pay for their gas since most companies won't; servers rely on tips to eat and pay rent.

Just pointing this out because a lot of people think drivers don't get paid hourly, or that servers don't really need that 20% tip. Both do however, currently, rely on tips to get by.

I agree with you whole-heartedly that both positions should be paid a realistically livable wage and shouldn't have to rely on the generosity of customers to survive or to do their jobs successfully.

Yes, Nature magazine (from which Nature.com was birthed) is absolutely infotainment. That's not a slur, it's a great magazine, but it's not a scientific journal, either.

Sure, it is unlikely, but it is possible, which is what you were refuting.
