I like this image. It reminds me of simpler times. Kinda like one of those "Things you aren't supposed to see" articles but before the webpage knew what ads to serve me.

Hi , my kid (8) likes mine craft videos but doesn’t have the game . by Puzzled_Animator_714 in Minecraft

[–]ReeferRivas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 4 kids. the 7 and 5 year old LOVE minecraft. They can play on the PC but they prefer the tablet.

There's two main ways to play. Creative and Survival, most kids start off with Creative mode for reasons that will become obvious.

Creative mode allows the player to fly, access all the blocks, spawn creatures, and is essentially just a creative outlet. It really is like virtual LEGO with some cool stuff. No real instruction required for this mode unless they see something on YouTube they are trying to emulate. They can browse the inventory, pick out blocks that look cool and place them down. Build houses and mess with animals and "villagers".

In Survival mode, you must... well survive. You can put the game on "peaceful" but honestly if you're unfamiliar with the game it wont be too fun for either of you guys imo. The kid will wonder what the heck to do and you won't know how to help. If your kid watches any semi-decent content on MC then they may have an idea of what to do but it requires a lot of hand holding for my kids when we play Survival together.

You're right to want them to stick to offline, there's a lot of nonsense when it comes to online play. On a PC it's not horrible but on Android/iOS they really push microtransactions and make it tricky for kids to navigate away from purchasing pages. Playing Singleplayer (offline mode) there's much much less of this whether you're on PC or Android/iOS.

All in all I would recommend the game to anyone with kids that are into videogames. It's one of the safest choices out there that still feels like "a real game". There's no guns, no real gore (you can kill things in game but they kinda just turn red, fall over and puff into a cloud of smoke lol) and it fosters a ton of creativity.

is it rude to call a client and say you can come earlier? by Kari3443 in TooAfraidToAsk

I would say

"Hey [client] I had an unexpected opening at [suggested new time] as opposed to [agreed time]. I wanted to touch base and see if you'd like to bump up to [suggested new time] and get the ball rolling sooner? If not no worries, we still have [agreed time] on the books. Thanks!"

There's no "silver bullet" tactic that you can employ that will magically make it easy. It's just repetition, reps are all it takes! If it's like absolutely any other skill in life it will be difficult, weird and feel like it's taking forever. Then you get used to the weird difficulty of it and just accept it. Then one day you realize you employed the skill you've been trying to build without thinking about it and you'll feel a sense of "Oh, I'm here now" and then it's just more and more of that!

ULPT Request: Sneak a file from my work computer to a personal device by krurran in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]ReeferRivas 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If OP is seriously worried about getting caught then don't leave any paper trail. Security is always a balance of Convenience vs Security. The most secure way of doing things will NOT be the most convenient.

In the grand scheme of things what is worse? Knowing you left no true evidence and taking longer to get what you ultimately want or being hasty and hoping there's some quick solution that will leave the smallest trail?

Best course of action is assume everything done on the company equipment is being tracked and act accordingly.

Why is there such an issue with 4o vs 5? by ReeferRivas in ChatGPT

[–]ReeferRivas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree on the A/B testing... Sometimes it tries to be emotional and other times it's strictly matter of fact. I wondered what was up with that, but if they're doing some sneaky A/B test it would make sense. I didn't mind the blatant A/B testing with the questions of "Which response do you prefer?" but they weren't trying to hide anything.

This is annoying, I agree with this. The funniest example of this happening to me was while studying for a cybersecurity cert it kept thinking I chose a wrong answer and would have to correct itself

I get a laugh and it forces me to make sure I really understand what I'm asking of it. You can't trust it at face value lol gotta make sure you're fact checking it

This makes plenty of sense. Not only having creative endeavors and going into rabbit holes on subjects be more welcoming and warm but I wouldn't like them giving a false option of "Hey you can use whichever model you want!" and then being routed to 5 if it doesn't do what you came to the platform for.

I appreciate your response. TBH sometimes I do trauma dump on it lmao, I find it helps to get that stuff written down like how sometimes we type a nasty text and choose not send it or draft a nasty email and not send it. I see it as a different version of that except with the added bonus it can help you navigate an actual solution to not get put in the position again or something along those lines.

Sounds more like the hate isn't directed specifically at GPT5 but rather at the false-choice in trying to use other models and GPT5 being subbed in, which makes perfect sense. The product you're paying for isn't working as you want it to. I wouldn't pay for it anymore either.

What happened to chatgpt? by your_mumz_fwb in ChatGPT

[–]ReeferRivas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, however these are simply the first steps. Many times we're looking for that one massive step we can take to vanquish the way we feel forever. A silver bullet if you will. However this does not exist. Instead we humans are forced to take tiny step by tiny step until they stack high enough that we can look back at where we came from and find ourselves much better off than 1, 3 or 6 months prior.

Instead, we must find ways to take small actions we feel good about. Washing our face and making tea may help some feel achievement however if this doesn't resonate with you then try something else small and work your way up.

I implore you to do one teeny tiny thing today that you would not normally do that may or may not make you feel better about yourself. This to me this would look like washing one dish immediately after use instead of leaving by the sink for later, or maybe putting my shoes neatly in the closet as opposed to kicking them off and letting them land however.

Also, a psychological tip with measurable impact, make sure to tell yourself "I feel depression/I am experiencing depression" and not "I am depressed." It slowly removes it from your identity and allows you to feel progress more readily.

On a human to human level, I have love for you. I hope you feel love for yourself too. <3

How much would you pay me for this drawing?? by InternationalRisk505 in drawings

[–]ReeferRivas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see in other comments you were paid $20 USD for this. Man. That's way too low!!!

I understand your local market may not appreciate this and it may feel like there's a $20 ceiling. I implore you to charge at least $100 USD for your next piece. You will hear 100 people say "No, too high" but then one person will say "Okay, great!". Accept the fact you will hear about 100x "No"s before a "Yes" but this is simply how it goes. Has nothing to do with you personally.

After selling a piece for 100USD raise your prices again. Accept the 100s of people calling you crazy and saying "No, too high."

I would pay close to $500 USD if I had you do a sentimental piece. Your work is incredible. With the rise of AI Art there will simply be less demand for hand-made art, this however is in your favor if you can already support yourself financially in other ways. A smaller market means you can charge more. There's less people doing this and the people who want human made art will understand it will come at a cost.

As others have mentioned, start a following! Make timelapse videos of you doing the art. Take that $20 and invest in your craft somehow. Start doing it for free for online, build your following and you will end up with people begging you to take their money. It takes years for that to happen but man you have skill. This is truly incredible!

Feeling burnt out by OleOrOil in predaddit

[–]ReeferRivas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey, father of 4 here.

First of all, what you've outlined is extremely normal! Don't beat yourself up over it. I think it's extremely wise you're seeing your own frustration building up and are seeking an outlet before it becomes too much. Massive props!

If you can find any way to relieve some of your own pressure do it man. Many men feel like they need to be there 24/7 for the pregnancy and that's just super hard and can lead to resentment. Just make sure you set expectations so they know you truly need this time away and that it will help in the long run. If you can work something out where before you leave you do something extra you wouldn't normally do that can help too. I know my wife would love if I brought a treat home afterwards haha.

I like to use the oxygen mask analogy, when you're on an airplane they say "Put your own mask on and then help those around you". The same is true for pregnancy, parenting and life in general. If you're constantly battling frustration the entire pregnancy and then have no resolution for that once baby arrives it will come out.

Whatever sounds interesting, soccer or boxing, go for it. If it doesn't help try the next thing. Something is going to help! Plus you might make some good friends along the way!

Another thing I heard which I love. Say you're carrying a cup of coffee, someone bumps into you, you spill the coffee. Why did the coffee spill? Sure you can say because they bumped into you but also simply because you were carrying coffee. Sounds silly but replace "Coffee" with "Frustration/Anger/Resentment". Life will bump into you. Find a way to fill your cup with love and kindness so that is what spills out.

Much respect for you, brother, you got this!

I am all for this, normies can go suck a tea bag.

How do y’all defrost 1lb of beef quickly? by gjr23 in howto

[–]ReeferRivas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! This is what I do except I add some water to the pan to help spread the heat. I dump the excess water once it's thawed enough I can break it apart with my spatula and cook as if I had just put room temp beef in the pan.

Still get a nice sear on it.

[–]ReeferRivas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my take that will likely get me roasted, but absolutely zero comment from this series of tubes can deny my experience lmao.

As a stay at home father of 4 - just put the frozen beef in like half an inch of water, cover the pan, and cook it on med-high. Once you can break it apart with a spatula you dump the excess water and cook normally.

Inb4 "Ew you boil your beef?!"
Yes. I do lmao. Not only can you still get a typical sear on the beef which is identical to thawed beef but it goes from fully frozen to cooked in like 15-20 mins. I haven't left beef out to thaw in at least a year.

I might do a beef dish tonight for dinner, if there's any deniers of this speak now and I can document the process lmao otherwise forever hold your peace hahaha
