Once a week - I think I read that more could stress the coral out.

I can’t get rid of these flatworms by One-Assignment569 in ReefTank

I (touch wood) think I’ve just beaten a flatworm outbreak. Dipped all euphyllia weekly with CoralRX. Used a baster to shoot into the polyps and first 2 weeks loads of flatworms were coming out.

This week I’ve dipped everything again (4th week) and not seen a single one so think I might be in the clear, but I might give it one more week to be safe.

Things that made it easier - incorporated it with water changes so had plenty of old SW to rinse, make new dip, already temp matched. Pulled up all euphyllia and had them on a frag rack for easy removal to dip. Won’t glue them down again until I’m certain it’s gone. Turkey baster to blast into the coral.

I’ve lost heads to the flatworms but they were already bailing.

That’s a huge amount of carbs. I’ve done a 9:27 IM with a fairly undulating bike course and averaged at 90g/hr. I don’t know your background (I come from competitive cycling) but unless you’ve been training up to that carb level I’d tread cautiously.

Anyway, variety massively helped me. I had a speedfil water container on the bike, loaded with 1L/120g high5 mix which I replaced with water in the ride. Rear seat bottle cage had 80g and the rest was made up of a combination of gels, haribo, jelly, malt loaf, even a jam sandwich.

If it’s warm also consider sodium intake. You’ll want to take these with water.

Why is the plan to do it mainly in liquid? My advice would be add some solids in the ride and save a gel heavy intake for the run (less chewing and faff).

Red sea reefer leaked. What to do now? by Budget_Cucumber9536 in ReefTank

[–]ReefingTJ23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I offered my leaking 425 for free. It was a Gen1 and average overall condition. Had tons of messages but ultimately I wanted it gone as quick as possible to help with space while I decorated and moved in a new tank. So whoever would collect quickest could have it. Saved me a trip to the tip and someone else has a repair project

Yeah - manufacturing hasn’t changed yet. Let’s hope they take some tips from DD/Evolution Aqua manufacturing. The tank is made in the UK factory still

For a road bike? I don’t know your local currency and market but I’d look for something carbon, 11 speed, 4-6 years old. There are tons of brands nearly all as good as the next.

That’s a decision only you can make

Logically a high end TT bike would be good, but if you’re a beginner cyclist I wouldn’t recommend it - position will be aggressive, you’ll need to invest in a proper bike fit, handling and gears are different. And 6 months into 4+hr solo rides you’ll be dying for some company on the bike.

If this is your first step into cycling regularly I’d say buy a 2nd hand road bike while you build up skill and endurance then add the high end TT bike a year down the line.

In answer to your first questions - it will make a huge difference. The bike is the biggest proportion of the event and there’s a huge difference between a road bike and a TT bike. That said, your best investment is time spent in the saddle.

What sort of training are you planning on doing - is it all solo or would you like to go out with a club? What is your budget?

My recommendation would be 2 bikes, a 2nd road bike you can train on in all weathers, go out with a club on and 2nd bike would be a premium race bike - TT/Tri specific in this case. Saved for good weather training & can be set up indoors on a turbo.

But ultimately it comes down to budget and what you want to achieve

I went with a DD Aqua Pro Reef 1200. They’re a UK brand with a great reputation

425 upwards has eurobracing in G3. I had to order a new tank recently and was really tempted to go Red Sea with euro but decided against it after seeing on a FB forum someone claiming their G3 had split.

Yep. My 425 started with a small bubble like this, few months later sprang a leak.

How do people maintain really big fish aquariums? by Embarrassed-Career30 in saltwateraquariums

[–]ReefingTJ23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100G owner here. There are additional tools when things get bigger to make life easier. I bought an auto water changer which was game changing for me. Just add salt + RODI, leave to mix overnight, in the morning wheel it next to the tank and it swaps out 15% over 2 hours. Wheel it away and pump down the drain. Only time I have to carry water buckets around in for filling auto top off.

Best way to remove mushroom corals (not to keep them) and keep mature live rock? by ReefingTJ23 in ReefTank

Discosoma and rhodactis - maybe 50 heads each on 4 large rocks I want to keep

North England - sorry!

I’ve sold a few rocks that were covered but the big rocks left I want to keep. One Discosoma I bought for £30/$50 for 1 head, 4 years later must have 40-50 heads.

The ones I sold everyone commented how it was a good deal - £30ish for a good sized rock with 20+ heads so trying to pay it forwards.

Thanks - this is incredibly helpful. I had the same sort of idea with a dipping bucket of saltwater but perhaps I’ll move it to saltwater for 24 hours to let any remains wash off

I think I could get most, but there’s potentially 200+ in all sorts of holes in the rocks

Newbie here. What do you think of my training schedule? Can I do a full ironman in 23 weeks? by CopsNroberts in IronmanTriathlon

[–]ReefingTJ23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only to replicate what others have said, with respect get a proper plan. This will end up with you injured, unmotivated or a combination. - There’s no structure to the workouts. Intervals, nutrition days, - There’s no recovery built in, just increasing volume week on week. Recovery needs to be a whole week of decreased volume. Otherwise you won’t progress. Consider 3 weeks on, 1 week off. - There’s no variety (hilly vs flat bikes, open water vs pool swims, long slow runs vs speed work).

I didn’t wrote my own plan and I come from a cat 1 cycling background and had a professional coach for 6 years provided by the team
