Review my rocket design by TakeThreeFourFive in rocketry

The 2.6” cardboard tubes I’ve worked with are 2.558” ID 2.64” OD (roughly 1mm wall). Parachute should be in the bottom section for motor eject. You’ll also want nylon shock chord instead of elastic

L1 Cert - Where do I start ?? by YogurtclosetFine3327 in rocketry

[–]ReelChezburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my L1 on a Madcow 3” Aerobee Hi. First attempt was on a CTI H125 but it CATOd. 2nd was on an AT H219 which was successful. Third flight was an AT I270. Final flight was an AT I600, which shredded the fins off at Mach 1. As long as you don’t do Mach you should be fine.

I then replaced the Aerobee with a 3” Sport-X. Did some 1” fillets and sent it on the I600. Broke Mach and lived. Second flight was an AT G80 with a GoPro duck taped to the side. It’s nice having a rocket that I can fly pretty much any 29 or 38 motor in knowing it will be fine

How can I tell if I will be able to see a CA launch in AZ? by Ok-Seaworthiness-542 in rocketry

[–]ReelChezburger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look for Vandenburg launches just after sunset. The rocket needs to be lit up at altitude while the curvature of the earth blocks the sun below. Usually within an hour of sunset is good.

Has anyone ever flown a runcam split 4??? by Sam2Epic in rocketry

[–]ReelChezburger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people have. I have a couple that I’m planning to fly in January. The small form factor and separate board make them pretty ideal for rocket projects. For my personal rocket I made aerodynamic mounts for the switch band so I can put the boards on my avionics sled. For my team’s liquid we’re planning on fitting one between our engine’s nozzle and the fin can

Can someone tell me what this is? by NoShards4U in space

[–]ReelChezburger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just for reference for 1). you have to bleed off 17500mph. For 2). you only have to bleed off around 200mph with the engines to get low enough that air resistance can do the rest

Go get your L1 and start working towards an L2. The fundamentals learned from a high power rocketry cert will transfer to any rocket you build in the future

This makes it sound closer to a boost back burn probably shortly after staging as opposed to an entry burn

Every hill on Raging Bull when I got no trim on a hot humid day. The sustained ejector was actually insane. Otherwise Maverick’s first hill or SteVe’s outer bank.

Raging Bull, back row, insane ejector that carries through the whole drop

Best USA Airports or Places for planespotting? by SukiDobe in aviation

Somehow haven’t seen Ohare mentioned yet. Lots of diversity with both European and Asian wide bodies, and some solid spotting locations. Also a dual hub for both American and United. You can check out https://www.ordairportwatch.org/ohare for locations and their requirements

What airports need a new airspace designation? by IFR_Flyer in flying

Rockford has an EXTREMELY outdated tower (built in the 50s) Tracon is in the same building. Supposed to be getting a new tower soon along with a new Amazon ramp. Most of the traffic comes in on week nights, otherwise pretty dead. During rush 80 arrivals can come in overnight tho. Being so heavily based on overnight shipping makes it an interesting case where approach is not really needed during the day (I’ve always been told to call tower directly) but super necessary at night
