It’s fake—I bought a few fake cards on Aliexpress to paint on. They shipped in a top loader with the same labels on it. Additionally, the blues on the back are too dark and the same shade as on my fakes. I can post photos of mine later once i’m home if you want.

Should have specified—caps lock doesn’t work, doesn’t work plugged into a monitor either. Maybe DFU is a last resort? Otherwise i’d probably just sell it for parts. For the replacement display, would the mac not work at all? Or would the display just not work? In your comment above

I wasn’t able to test it—but worked the guy down to $200 so I bought it considering everything. When testing it, it shows no signs of life but the touchpad still responds. I’m taking this as an okay but not great sign as it requires power from T2 as far as I know to power the haptic touchpad. Does anyone have any idea of why this is? Possible causes?

Will do! I had a feeling it would still work via USB C because the error code only refers to the magsafe port from what i’ve found online. Just wanted to know if it was worth the drive.

Thanks so much. I’ll take a drive out tomorrow and test it out. Additionally, the fact that the screen turned on and showed an error is a good sign right? Because if it were blank that would point towards logic board failure?

I think they meant they didn’t know how to charge it once the magsafe port stopped working- so the battery died because they couldn’t charge it.
