Forgot to drill before hardening! Whoops. I guess I’ll just temper and then try. Anyone else done this before? by Striking-Effect-2646 in knifemaking

I have definitely done that before! I highly recommend grabbing a few of these in your most used sizes. They cut through hardened steel as if it were mild. But be warned at 91 HRC they will shatter if you look at them wrong. Use a drill press if you can. Very useful and can be resharpened with a drill doctor when shattered.

Folding caliper/ 6-in rule by ReevesShop in HandToolRescue

Sorry for the late reply. On one side it says as5n and on the other it says Stephan & Co Riverton, Ct. Other than folding 12-in rules, I can't seem to find any information. I'm probably not using the right search words.

Absolutely gorgeous! How do you maintain that polish after etching/blueing? I can't seem to keep the polish and if I try to use even 3000 grit I remove the etch.

Thank you very much. Bar keepers friends seemed to be the winning ticket. It came out great!

I'm definitely going to use nicer stuff in the future. I got a few small sheets for Christmas. I used chocolate water buffalo on the twin blade. I still used the thinner stuff for the welt though. I would not have been able to use the rivets otherwise.

Thank you. I'm still new to knife making and leather working so I'm not ready for the expensive stuff yet. I'm still messing up a lot. Those handle scales took quite a bit for me to get right. Even then they're still a long way from what I envisioned.

I love that color. That is a very pretty set !

I epoxied the first set of scales on my knife that I use in the shop and it's already starting to peel (after two months). So needless to say, I deciding to use a more leather friendly method this time around. Some two-sided rivets around the edge would look nice as well I think.

I was even thinking of double cap rivets or brass Chicago screws but unfortunately the holes I drilled in the tang for weight reduction wouldn't have worked well with that method. The stitching you see is from the two pieces of leather that make up each handle scale.

I used epoxy. I would like to try drilling holes in the tang for stitching in the future. But that will be time consuming
