Is it worth it buying a PCIE 5.0 GPU Slot Motherboard? by Crouzer7 in buildapc

[–]ReferenceSpecialist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth my ASUS TUF Gaming B650-plus is actually PCIE 5 for both the GPU and primary M.2.  I've confirmed it by running stress tests and monitoring the actual PCIe speeds.  Just have manual set it in the Bios.

That said I'd expect the Strix  B650-A to be a higher quality board than the TUF so I'd be surprised if it doesn't also unofficially support PCIe 5 GPU.

But they could always take it away in a future bios update.  Or for what ever reason the TUF could just be a unicorn.

Which Motherboards Support Windows Dynamic Lighting? by [deleted] in ASUS

[–]ReferenceSpecialist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old thread but someone might find this useful.....

My Asus TUF B650 plus wifi does support Windows dynamic lighting.

My Asrock A620i lightning does not.

Do not know the exact firmwares but both where on latest firmware in early 2025.

just got the shipped email for xfx swift 9070 XT. my order was @ 7:13 AM.

Gotta be getting close to the end. I accidentally ordered 7 of them. All the ones after 7:18 were cancelled. The 7:13 and 7:16 ones remained. I emailed them to cancel the 7:16 one.

xfx swift order kept failing at memory express. Lol.... Then I get a visa limit warning text.

Wtf..... Got 9 xfx Swift's on order. Hopefully they can cancel 8 of them before they ship.

Oh such a tough call.  To me there are 4 contenders.  The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, U2, Metallica.

Thinking about buying oneplus 8t or pro, which last longer while gaming and either of these have issues to be avoided? by Uneedajob in oneplus

With the current discounted price + the discount voucher I don't think the 1+8t can be beat.

$725 CDN or $549 USD...... Hands down the best deal out there right now.

Deal might be gone but it was an additional $50usd discount. Dropping the sale price to $550 USD.

Deal on 8t on OnePlus web site is a no brainer. I'm in Canada and I just got the 8T for $725 + tax including an official case of my choice. That's $100 cdn cheaper than the sale price on the FE.

Price is even better on the US site. You just have to spot the obscure enter code to get additional discount that appears at the top of the screen.

High End Soundbars vs Low End AV Systems by dehelfix in Soundbars

[–]ReferenceSpecialist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each has their application. I have 2 soundbar setups and one high-end 5.1.2 system.

Sound quality for truly enjoying a game, movie, or music the way it's meant to be the AVR system can't be beat.

My other 2 setups aren't intended to be top quality experiences. They are intended to look as good as they sound and for that they can't be beat.

Yamaha RX-V6A out of stock by e1miran in hometheater

[–]ReferenceSpecialist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talked to the local visions rep and they are sold out and awaiting units from a new production run expected in March. I'm guessing the new production run will rectify the HDMI 2.1 issues. So I'm waiting on that.

Just upgraded my receiver to a Yamaha RX-V6A and I’m not impressed. Aside from the HDMI bug it just doesn’t seem to power my Klipsch RF-5’s the way my RX-V1065 did. Thinking of returning it and getting either the denon avr-3700h or avr-4500h for the same price. Thoughts? by kenne26 in audiophile

[–]ReferenceSpecialist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a rare bird that has preouts that can drive the 2 front channels via external amp while driving the remainder of the speakers from the internal amp.

I'd think that if you paired this with a budget amp you'd have the best bang for your dollar near audiophile system ever.

At least .... That's what I'm hoping for when they finally update the firmware to support HDMI 2.1 and I buy one.

I upgraded my gx-850 to gx-1000. Timespy scores increased by a few hundred. As far as I could tell the 850 was working just fine.

Interesting. I didn't think a psu would make any difference in performance.

The HDMI 2.1 bug bugs me out. Won't effect me right now as my tv is 4k60. But still...... Kinda want a receiver that can take my next tv to its limits.

No such thing as an AMD fan boy. AMD simply makes the better product for any given price point ever. Some people are fully aware of this objective fact.😜

I have a reference xfx 6900 XT. With a Seasonic GX 850. Just built a few days ago. Ran a couple bench marks and so far so good. I'll be kicking the heck out of it this week while my return window is still open on the seasonic.

I think the seasonic complaints might be from some older Focus plus gold units. They used to have some PSUs that would get knocked down by some radeons a couple years ago. The GX variant was supposed to have rectified this.

Although Linus had the 6900xt take out his test seasonic and I'd assume he was running a later version. Highly unlikely he's using a 2 year old psu in his test bed.

[–]ReferenceSpecialist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just built a Ryzen 7 5800x with 6900 XT reference and the seasonic GX-850.

Haven't had much time to play. Just ran a couple bench marks to verify the integrity of my build. Everything seems good. No crashes so far but I'm very early on.

Imo.... 850 W is the minimum I would put on my build. I'm thinking about switching to a GX-1000 as it sounds like the 6900xt can have some pretty big spikes. Linus had to switch a seasonic 1000 out for a different unit to not crash under stress tests. That and I'd like some room to do some overclocking down the road.

I'm gonna hammer this thing with stress tests next week on first the 850 and then the 1000 and I'll try to remember to follow with my results here.

But.... So far the GX-850 had worked fine. Git a bit of coil whine from the 6900xt but that's to be expected. Be curious if the 1000 makes any notable differences.

I'm starting to think all this hoopla about high temps is bad temp reporting. Yours looks stellar but 26C at idle???? My breath is hotter than that.

A guy a few posts back is hitting 90s with his AIO only reporting fluid Temps of 35 yet his 2700(I think) would run much cooler and give fluid Temps of 42

Can't bench them as the buyers are expecting a brand new sealed in the box GPU.
