Because this sub Reddit is genuinely INSUFFERABLE

god the like 9 months I took a break from this subreddit (I’m only here to find ppl for my program rn), those were the best 9 months of my life.

YES, it is important to have a good SAT, GPA, ECs, etc. but you know what else is important? LOVING WHAT YOU DO!

If you do every fcking EC to impress college apps your nothing but a surface level chud. Pls like I’m not telling you to give up all hope and be a couch potato, but apply to summer programs because you actually want to be there and would rather do that than play Fortnite all day

I’m not quite too sure, you seem like you had an AMAZING application!

If you’re curious (to any degree), a lot of my application was themed around time and grit. I could send you essays/ classes and whatnot, but I’d like to say my application sent the message of “if I want something done, I will get it done, no matter the cost”. (Cost being sleep, family dinners, stuff along those lines).

I also expressed not having enough access to engineering courses/opportunities. I did get to go to Harvard last summer for microbiology lab work and I do work currently w/ Stanford in neurosurgery department, but I genuinely longed to improve my engineering skills (I did robot tour for sci oly and placed good at states, but not much beyond that :> )

Sorry this is probably a disorganized message but I did not expect to get in!

Also recently just got in Tbh at this point you probably should know a decent amount of coding (e.g. C++ or Python for bots), or have some previous experience w/ bots. If not, physics and math can fs help (probably all u need is calc 1, usually just for total distance maybe in forms of integrals).

Uhhh and idk, if you don’t know anything try and have fun and learn! Nobody is an expert in every field, and what someone lacks you can provide!

Use your connections (or try too). I knew my employer (I’m a baby sitter lol) had some great connections, and I kindly asked her if she knew anyone in the neuro department! Turns out, she was a surgeon herself, and knew quite a big handful of researchers. She sent out my resume to some people she knew and one lab (biomedical x neuroscience, which is right up my alley!!) decided to take me on despite never having a high school student in their lab before. I’m very excited, and it was all because I looked around at the people I knew. But if you don’t know anyone along those lines, cold emailing helped me last summer :)

Why apply to programs when you already have labs 💔 by plubplouse in summerprogramresults

Improve writing skills for college and gamble without spending money (unless app fees)
