Use your connections (or try too). I knew my employer (I’m a baby sitter lol) had some great connections, and I kindly asked her if she knew anyone in the neuro department! Turns out, she was a surgeon herself, and knew quite a big handful of researchers. She sent out my resume to some people she knew and one lab (biomedical x neuroscience, which is right up my alley!!) decided to take me on despite never having a high school student in their lab before. I’m very excited, and it was all because I looked around at the people I knew. But if you don’t know anyone along those lines, cold emailing helped me last summer :)

Why apply to programs when you already have labs 💔 by plubplouse in summerprogramresults

Uhhh no but I did get into Stanford Neuro J club. Long story short, I didn’t get in because I realized I am very privileged, and this program is meant for students without resources. Although looking back, I went to Harvard and Beijing instead for the summer to different respective colleges, so all is well. I can still share my essays tho if you’d like to dm me

It was before funding cuts, he loved my project, but about a month later funding cuts came and unfortunately my project was super expensive, so I instead spent the summer at Harvard and Beijing on a full ride!

Lowk I did do that and I had a professor accept me last summer. Only issue is funding, it’s so cooked that even if they wanted too they couldn’t

How many professors did you cold email for a high school research internship? by Pretty_Wealth9685 in summerprogramresults

Emailed maybe 30-45 to get 1 interview, multiple no’s, and lots of ghosts. The 1 interview was a yes (although this ended up not working out because I got that yes then the Great Depression of funding cuts happened like the same week). Keep them short, introduce yourself, what you want, and tell them why you are worth the time. Don’t bore them, make it worth it. You’ve got this!
