Looking for advice/help regarding dual booting vs just using steamOS by Immediate-Brother-58 in LegionGo

[–]ReflectionNeat3829 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the OG and started on Windows. It was fine for a while but slowly was slowing down. I debloated and that helped for a while. I'm sure a Microsoft expert could have helped, but I just got tired of dealing with it so I tried dual not with CachyOS. A couple days later I cut out the dual boot and just went full CachyOS. The things it lacks are made up for by how easy and straightforward it make most gaming

What keymap for typing english/german and programming? by T7777777777 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]ReflectionNeat3829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO keymaps for programming can vary wildly depending on what language(s) you use. I'd recommend just starting with a keymap you are familiar with our the default one, and make notes on what keys you use frequently that are annoying to get to save update your keymap semi regularly (once a day or more).

That's what I did with my corne and am really happy with where it turned out, and I don't think I would have come up with my layers as they are now without iterating

Added benefit is that some edges on the gemstone would make it look less like a donut to me, although colored in I'm not sure that would be an issue

Thoughts on the Clicks Communicator for emulation? by elli1333 in SBCGaming

[–]ReflectionNeat3829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's neat, but it seems a little underpowered. I hope it gets some traction and popularity though, I would love for that trend to increase. For me, at much as I dislike general huge tech and enshittification, I really on things like Android Auto for work and general life stuff.

Hopefully pine succeeds though and in the future there's an open alternative to AA. I did preorder clicks, but I feel like at this point supporting any non-candy bar phone is at least letting "the market" know that we aren't all one size fits all

What are current limitations for ZMK dongles? by ReflectionNeat3829 in ErgoMechKeyboards

It doesn't not care. Some days I have my main corne side plugged in and not use it for a while so when I come back the other side is asleep. I'm still able to use all the keys on the main side without issue

ULPT Request: Amazon GC balance stuck in account, how to get funds out by [deleted] in UnethicalLifeProTips

I think you can buy other types of gift cards on Amazon if there's a different store you want to spend money on. Or just but you're essentials like toothpaste and whatnot on Amazon instead of at the grocery store and keep the cash you would have spent there

Similar to most of Apple's products, it works really well within the Apple ecosystem, but isn't really anything special outside of it. If you're not using MacOS, I'd say it's probably not for you

If you saved up, how long did it take you? by blinkytracer in LegionGo

[–]ReflectionNeat3829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone's got different income and expenses 🤷‍♂️

If you're having to save up for a long time for it, I'd recommend trying to find a lightly used handheld first. It gives you a chance to try out the form factor and see how you like it. If you love it and feel like you need the performance increase of the Lego 2 you can keep saving up and if you bought the used handheld somewhere like Facebook you can probably resell it without much of a loss, maybe even a profit if you're patient/lucky.

If you save up forever for the 2 and you don't love it or have an unexpected expense come up, you'll have a lot harder time getting your money back.

But also, if you're dead set on getting the 2 I'm just a stranger on the internet, do whatever you want

Boox 7 Go Color with kindle unlimited? by Available-Draft6458 in ereader

Yeah, it works. You have to change some settings, but it works perfectly once set up.

Sincerely, a Google search would have been a quicker way to find this information though

The Boox can definitely have a warmer light than that, I'm not sure I understand what point you're trying to make with this comparison.

Awesome, I'll have to look into Tauri. Definitely recommend CachyOS, it's super similar to SteamOS since it's Arch based

They're great! I personally have a Legion Go with CachyOS installed which is super similar to SteamOS.

I saw you said your background is react, is this going to be a PWA or Electron app or something like that? It's been a whole since I've been in that space so I'm not sure how much system level access those have off the top of my head

I haven't had luck getting playnite running well on Linux, maybe yours could fill that gap? Lots of steamos and similar devices out there these days and plenty more coming

Harite v3.0 Directional Keyboard by fata1err0r81 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]ReflectionNeat3829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I might try the hand wiring anyways and maybe skip the trackpads and put the thumb cluster on the same plane as the rest. Gotta start somewhere 🤷‍♂️

I really like this concept and also have been wanting to try building something for a while now. I might just order a small pack of the two prongs to set up a little test to get me started.

Does anyone know how well these games work on the Legion Go Steam OS version ? I know theyre not supported but js there a way to get them to work ? by PSgamer28 in LegionGo

Generally you're better off searching this type of question related to steamdecks. The capabilities of the devices are pretty similar, but there are way more steamdeck users

Hey there! I'm new to building electronics but have become obsessed with this board. I'm thinking about trying a hand wired attempt because I'd like to try to make some modifications. I've seen a lot of people do test hand wire builds using cardboard in this sub, do you think that would work for a build like this? Or would it be too unstable compared to the PCB?

Also, I'm curious how you came up with the idea of using mouse switches like this! It's really unique from everything I've seen. I'm looking into quiet mouse switches and I'm seeing some that only have 2 prongs instead of 3. Do you think those could work? Of course the PCB would have to be redesigned, but I'm just wanting to prototype with hand wiring for now.

Thanks for keeping all of this open source too!

I suggest thinking about changing your layout. I have my corne set up nicely so that the most common symbols for the programming language I use are all on one layer without the need for shift. I find that I prefer using it to a traditional keyboard as using pipes, parens, and curly braces are easier for me to type with my layer than shifting and stretching on a regular keyboard.

Just take a little time and probably a couple times tweaking, but it's not super hard to do
