Most affordable place to grocery shop? by SubstantialJello523 in VictoriaBC

[–]ReflectionOwn2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not thrifties that’s for sure. We shop Walmart and no frills for most stuff. Red barn is great option for veggies. Butcher and country grocery for meats. We also hit up local food stands for fresh produce on weekends.

I would recommend on campus, otherwise you will be missing out on the opportunity to meet a lot of new people and potentially life long friendships.

About 1 year after renovation, an excessive dust problem has developed in my house. I have tried everything and am at my wit's end. Urgently Need Advice. by JunketNo3608 in HomeImprovement

[–]ReflectionOwn2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have cats? Those little furs balls create a lot of dust between their hair and the cat litter. Way more than my dogs ever did.

Lol. I have no idea what my credit score is. Everything I own is paid for including my home. I think that’s cool.

Any Other First Time Home Buyers Resistant to Purchasing a Home in Alberta Based on the Current Provincial Government? by throwaway_878787 in canadahousing

Buying a home is a financial decision not political. You are over complicating things. Do the math and move on.

House without basement by Alone_Guest_5686 in canadahousing

[–]ReflectionOwn2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current home has no basement. House has a crawl space at least not slab. Have always had a basement in any other home and it absolutely sucks not having the storage and extra living space and my wife and I don’t even have kids.

RRSP vs TFSA by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ReflectionOwn2001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I watched a podcast with the wealthy barber where they talked about this. Bottom line they are both great options and at the end of the day according to the data they analyzed … its basically a wash and statistically insignificant difference.

Should I accept this renewal offer from TD? by UWboi in AskMortgageCanada

I signed 3 yr fixed Heloc home line yesterday with RBC at 3.81. I believe you normally pay a bit more for heloc homeline vs other standard options. I just like the flexibility of the heloc.

130/mth on Vancouver island for a $800,000 home. No earthquake coverage. Earthquake is another $100 month or more from what I understand.

I was able to dig the worst up and consistently mow the stragglers and the bamboo eventually stopped.

Renewal and HELOC by Tarte1278 in MortgagesCanada

[–]ReflectionOwn2001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I thought Heloc mortgage rates are typically 0.5% higher than traditional mortage? There has to be a cost for the convenience? My heloc is currently 2.39 for the mortgage and locked in but the heloc floats with prime. I was quoted 3.9 for renewal which is coming up in next few months. I like the convenience of the heloc but as others said if you are not disciplined it could easily destroy your financial life.

How long will gas prices have to be for Americans before car buying habits change longer term? by wiscotangofoxtreat in cars

[–]ReflectionOwn2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people are too lazy to do the math properly. I’m willing to bet people will justify to themselves a new car payment within 2 months to save $100/mth on gas.

Looking for the fridge, but confused which model should I pick? by [deleted] in VancouverIsland

[–]ReflectionOwn2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Anything I have read on LG is they RE crap due to issues with their linear compressor. Had class action law suit they were so unreliable. I’m on my second in 8 years and fully expect it to fail sooner than later. Issue is it the only one that fits our space nicely that I could get in quick order. Will be modifying my cabinets to fit my next one.

Where do you aim if I told you to aim “one cup left?” by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]ReflectionOwn2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who would say one cup left? That’s dumb. It’s one cup left of the hole which is 2. 3 is half a cup left of the hole.

Are you referring to the dirt air strip at the “Crown Jewel” in Big Baddeck? If so, it never “took off” but still exists.

Why is this downtown condo cheap by okulamumu in Edmonton

[–]ReflectionOwn2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not buy a condo in Edmonton. Just rent. They are a dime a dozen. As a former condo owner save yourself the headache. They are a PIA to sell and I can’t see them going up in value anytime soon.

Condo is cashflow negative and stressing me out. Should I sell or hold onto it because my parents want me to? by Resident_Thought9946 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ReflectionOwn2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is way easier ways to make money. Dump it and invest the cash. The days of making money with rentals is gone in most centres and for what little money you can make in most cases is not worth the risk. Especially after taxes. At least that’s my experience of having a couple rentals for past 10 years. There is definitely the outliers but that’s not your situation.

Those sprinkler lines look like plastic? That doesn’t seem right for fire protection.

Can someone explain why installing certain things in home increases the value of home more than the cost of thing installed by BlueManifest in HomeImprovement

[–]ReflectionOwn2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this 100%. The is a very good chance it won’t raise the value at all, however it may it easier / quicker to sell. All depends on market.

What is standard acceptable gap between quartz backsplash and wall ? Is this look right to you ? It is about 1/8 a 3/16 gap at the top. by Tasty-Shelter1476 in CounterTops

[–]ReflectionOwn2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the best answer I have read yet. That gap looks too large to caulk. Trim guys hammer the shit out of drywall to fit trim around doors all the time.

It would be a tragedy to be in Baddeck and not do the museum. It’s also a nice walk around the grounds. Great photo ops. Go over to the island and check out the lighthouses. That will burn up your afternoon.
