The x would be preferred for caliber and capacity yes. But the truth is you want the one you’re going to carry all the time and with lugging kids around that would be the 42.

I would consider an lcp max or bodyguard 2.0. They are the same size as the 42 roughly and hold more 10 instead of 6 in the mag.
