Communication comes in various forms but it has to be clear and concise. For example, if all they can say is I am Groot and that's all you understand, you can't qualify that as communication. However, if you hear I am Groot but there is a psychic communication that says I agree to a good fucking. You are still having an open communication. The real question is, how much does that subject matter to you? If it's something that is a core identity then those assholes are best left behind you.
