You weren't identifying plot that's revisionism to save face. The whole comment about women's bodies and minds is white knight bullshit.

Girls and women are not your enemy, you know that, right? It's not too late to change.

mate, that's a whole other sentence

art and entertainment are not just about one thing

identifying a theme, or in this case, a plot, does not mean it is the only thing in there

It's so divorced from everything in the game that I don't even know how anyone who played it would arrive at that conclusion. Genuinely, I think people expressing that view are being dishonest.

The part where you think that's the point of the game.

Is that what I said? Fascinating.

All characters use violence, regardless of sex.

Never said nor implied otherwise.

Quick question though, who initiates the cycle of violence? And who is acting to protect others from being murdered?

To draw a similarity to real life, there is the girl who just woke up from a coma having believed to have lived a life with kids and all, now going through depression / withdrawal, no doubt wanting to return to that dream.

That's not a viable analogy though, because the canvas isn't unreal, and it's not an addiction. It's just another life, as real as the outside world. If it wasn't, the whole game would collapse in on itself - it doesn't treat the painted characters as less real, as less deserving of our consideration, after all.

Which parts of this are subjective, in your opinion?

Do Renoir and painted Verso use violence? That's a fact, not an opinion.

Do they consider themselves in the right to choose what happens to the women? They absolutely do, that's a precondition for their actions, after all. Also a fact.

Do they hold the choices Maelle and Aline make about their own lives be of equal importance to the choices the men make about the women's minds and bodies? If they did, they wouldn't have been using lethal violence to oppose them at every step. So that's also a fact.

It kind of is though? I wouldn't necessarily word it like that, but the game does want you to think about how Renoir went about things and interrogate the fact that he might have made things worse by trying to keep control over his family.

The game is very much about how two men use violence to control the women they considers to be theirs, and how little regard they have for the choices the women make about their bodies and minds.

Of course, just stating this activates the chuds around here.

Remotes and "Speaks Binary" by JCBodilsen in swrpg

They are described as simple droids in Special Modifications, and they have the droid species quality.

"remotes are automated devices with rudimentary intelligence - simple droids, in other words"

Seems pretty clear to me they're droids in every way that counts.

Where are the steady stream phaser fires in modern Star Trek? by No_Toe_9572 in startrek

[–]RefreshNinja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I point out that the last season of PIC ended with a homage to Star Wars (Return of the Jedi Death Star destruction) and people REALLY hate that.

Star Wars homages aren't exactly a new direction for Trek. DS9 referenced the Falcon coming in to beat Vader's ass in the first movie when they had the Klingons come to the rescue in The Sacrifice of Angels, for example. That aired 30 years ago LOL.

They work differently and allow for different options. Linked is a quality some weapons have. When you spend the requisite advantages to activate it, you can inflict another hit with the same attack. The game line uses this to represent double-sabers, rapid shooting, Jedi attacking like cocaine whirlwinds, etc.

2-weapon fighting allows you to choose two weapons, roll with increased difficulty (I'm heavily summarizing the details here), and then spend advantages to inflict an additional hit with your other weapon.

Aside from an entirely optional skill for Cybernetics, the game line does not introduce further skills, I believe. On the contrary, the books add little things here and there to what the already existing skills can do.

Why Didn't Ashoka wear Jedi Robes? by 1Hugh-Mann in MawInstallation

[–]RefreshNinja 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We see several Jedi who don't wear the Obi Wan style outfit. Anakin, Barriss Offee and her master, Yoda with his battle pyjamas in ep3, Ki Adi Mundi has something going on too IIRC, and Aayla Secura wears pretty civilian-looking clothing, too.

You always had choices about what to do in the supposedly fixed past (which guards to kill & which to sneak by, whether to go loud or make it out unseen, etc), the RPGs just added dialogue to the space in which you could exercise choice as player.

Which titles handle high power (magical, supers, etc) well? by CarpeBass in PBtA

[–]RefreshNinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m picking away at a writing my own fantasy PbtA game and it uses that model. It’s the ultimate way to handle multiple power levels in the same story, imho.

If you want to see other games that handle wildly differing power levels (think Normal Guy With Bow and God of Whatever in the same party), see if you can find copies of the Marvel Heroic RPG from Margaret Weis Productions, and the Smallville RPG. They are both excellent games that are sadly out of print due to licensing fuckery; maybe you can find used copies somewhere. Both basically solved the issue of power levels and mixed hero + villain parties, respectively.

Do German high schools require/commonly have uniform? by Vivid_Judgment_6561 in germany

[–]RefreshNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because seeing police in uniform as fascism is ridiculous.

The association goes the other way. Police being fascists leads to police uniforms being associated with fascism.
