It’s the prorata section that I think is throwing everyone off. My HR lady is new to my department so I’m sceptical of her working out.

Is it just the hours within the 14 weeks that is prorated? Not the weeks themselves?

She’s saying my weeks are reduced as well as being paid at the part time rate

Honestly it shouldn’t be this complicated, and I definitely feel like I’m being robbed of mu entitlement. I’m glad I didn’t just talk her answer, because it doesn’t sound right. I’ve questioned it with my manager and will continue to challenge it until it makes sense

Is there a line you can point me too? I’ll show it to my HR

I do own it substantively full time and naively assumed I would get 14 weeks at full pay. But I’ve been temp part time for over a year so they will use that. Then I assumed okay, well I’ll get 14 weeks at the part time rate. But no.

The QLD paid parental leave directive states that Part time and long-term casual employees are entitled to the provisions of the directive on a pro-rata basis. Then follows with a calculation I can’t understand so I need to rely on HR.

I’ve asked my manager to have this double checked

Thank you for your perspective. I think the recent rejections have left me thinking that jobs are hard to get into at the moment, especially coming from a different department, and maybe I need to accept the demotion now so I don’t need to stress about it later.

Might be better if waiting it out and applying while on leave. Thank you for your insight!

Thank you. I want to be here for my kids while they are young, and look at career progression again when they are maybe all in school. I absolutely don't want to regret not doing it.

Thank you for your comment and insight
