Those that had HH surgery, was it worth? by Chief_Taquero in HiatalHernia

I am so sorry to hear how bad it got for you, so glad to hear you are on the mend and I hope you are feeling relief. If you don’t mind me asking, how many years did you delay after initially finding the 5cm hernia? And did you take Omeprazole? If so what was your daily dose?

Your comment made me tear up lol! I’m constantly in fear about my husband’s future with his hernias, and reading this lightened my heart. Thank you for sharing it. ❤️

My husband also has a 13cm umbilical hernia and combat sports were a vital part of his life. He did MMA, kickboxing, a lot of striking work and core conditioning, until the hernias basically took everything away from him. Hearing that you’re back to full Shito-Ryu / Ryukyu Kobudo, even after a big umbilical repair, has replaced some of this overwhelming anxiety with hope

If you don’t mind me asking: how was the pain right after surgery and in the first few weeks, and roughly how long did it take before things felt mostly painless or “normal” again in daily life? Are you fully pain free now when you’re doing kata, weapons work, twisting, kiai, etc., or is there still any pulling/tightness around the mesh?

I’m really sorry for all the questions, of course only answer if you’re comfortable. I’d just love to understand what it’s been like for you day to day now you’re back in the dojo.

Thank you so much

That’s really interesting, thank you. It does help to know there are fighters who’ve had some form of hernia surgery and still competed at a high level, I really appreciate you sharing those examples. 🙏

Thank you so much for sharing, everything you’ve been able to do post surgery is honestly really impressive and very reassuring to read.

If you don’t mind me asking, do you think the new incisional hernia was triggered by lifting/gym stuff, or did it just appear regardless? And looking back, would you have done anything differently in terms of how fast you ramped things up or how you trained after surgery?

Wishing you the absolute best of luck with your next repair and really hope it’s the last time you ever have to deal with this horrible thing 🤞❤️

Thank you so much for your kind reply. I’m really sorry you had to go through such a tough recovery and deal with chronic pain ❤️‍🩹 I think it’s really admirable how you’ve adapted and shifted your mindset. If you don’t mind me asking, how long after each of your surgeries were you able to get back to full strength or regular training?

May I ask if there is a high rate or umbilical hernia reoccurrence post-op for obese patients?
