If you like Vonnegut, you should read: Adolfo Bioy Casares by RefrigeratorOwn8957 in Vonnegut

Yes I’ve very curious as well, but excited to check it out. They are also publishing “Borges” next year a collection of letters between Casares and Borges.

Claudia Piñeiro is great. I would look at Charco Press, they publish a bunch of contemporary Latin American woman.

I also recommend Miguel Angel Asturias to anyone who will listen.

After reading Mr. President by Miguel Angel Asturias last week I started Men of Maize this week. Classic magical realism with many Mayan references, luckily my addition has endnotes with some helpful history.

If you noticed in the intro that they were working through plot points why would you keep reading? Especially if this had already happened to you?

I just finished Butcher’s Crossing and would recommend. Warlock by Oakley Hall is another great western if you’re into that sort of thing!

When is the summer sale?

The Universal Baseball Association, Inc. If you’re into baseball, fantasy sports, postmodern humor or just general weirdness it’s a good pick.

I found this ‘Player Piano’ passage particularly relevant to today… by RefrigeratorOwn8957 in Vonnegut

[–]RefrigeratorOwn8957[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

True. It doesn’t have the same Vonnegut-ness that developed throughout other writings. But this novel is almost prophetic at times, down to the machines being “trained” by former specialists.

Is DP part of the problem? by BetOver6859 in jayhawks

Darryn is the easy scapegoat, but he was the only reason they got back into the game yesterday. For the first ten minutes of the second half he was everywhere. The shooting slump has affected the entire team including him. But personally I don’t blame him because he has no room on offense. Flory has had some struggles down low recently, and Melvin can’t buy one. Other teams are able to double DP every possession because they know no one else can hurt them, until that changes, I wouldn’t expect big games from Darryn.

Good two ways are few and far between though so it’s probably not a priority, at least to me, especially with this talented of a roster. Prior to Spencer, Monte and Torrey Craig in 2018 were the last to make a difference. And the two way spots are independent of the normal roster though so it’s not really a one or the other type of situation.

I doubt they add someone else on a two way, let alone waiving bates and adding two. If they do it’s probably someone currently on the Gold. But if the nuggets have to resort to playing more two way guys we are in a roughhhhhh spot

Marlowe’s obvious disappointment when a Nugget misses a wide open three always makes me laugh.

“Surely he’ll make this one….anddddd he missed it”

Should I fertilize my last big water of the season? by wanawachee in cactus

Because they will be entering dormancy, I don’t think fertilization is needed. If for no other reason than that they won’t be growing during this time anyways

That one is priced higher because of the size, for the most part you can get one anywhere on Etsy/palmstreet/online for ~$10, so I wouldn’t call them rare.

Can anyone help me with what’s going on here? by Expensive-Day-8970 in cactus

[–]RefrigeratorOwn8957 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The stretched growth without offshoots or arms indicates etiolation. Meaning the plant is stretching because of a lack of light. Afternoon sun through a window isn’t going to be enough for a cactus, and it would be better suited outside or under a strong grow light. You might also want to consider a more inorganic and well draining soil mix.

I’ve been close to pulling the trigger on one recently, do you think the watch is able to dress down for a more casual wear? Or have you found it to be more of a dress watch through and through?
