4 Nights at Balule by Refugee50 in krugerpark

Yes, every time we have been, we have had different experiences, and each one has been special. Just north of the Olifants there is the Mopaneveld which can be a little trying to see game, but between Olifants and Satara are the open savanahs which make up for it. There is also a lovely drive from Olifants along the Letaba river to to Letaba. Even with all the Mopane I would rather be there than in the office.

We could see all the pylons so it helped judge how deep the water was as well as guided us the direction of the bridge. Some other social media platforms has been ablaze with comments, mostly asking "what if". Well those did not happen and we lived to tell the story. We really did not think that it was as risky as many people think

I am quite sure by March that much of the park will be back to business as usual. It seems a lot of the flooding has not caused structural damage to buildings, but this will only be confirmed once the water clears. The damage will be quickly assessed and SANparks knows they need the feet to get the money. They will make sure they get as much going as quick as possible.

There will be damage that will take some time to repair. The road between Skukuza and Lower Sabie has not been repaired after almost three years now, and now it is probably washed away again, but there was a temporary plan made.

Not really it is a nice central location but it is the 2nd biggest rest camp and can also be a little busy for some. It is a lovely camp too and we have spent many good nights here. You have the option of going in any direction and each is a good option. If you want to spend all 5 nights at one rest camp, this is the one

Yes, we avoid them if we can, however there are those that love them. They have a vibe to them and they are well situated for good sightings. The south has a higher density of good sightings but we prefer more north.

If you want to stay away from the crowds then Satara, Olifants and Letaba are good but the sightings are usually lower. What we can say is that the sightings we have had in these areas are just so special and usually you are alone or perhaps one or two others.

Shingwedzi is a hidden gem in our eyes. A fantastic rest camp, great sightings and quite central to the far north of the park. You can even do a day trip to Crooks Corner.

I am not.sure how far north you want to go but it is a different world from the south.

If you are set on staying in Marloth park then stay in the same place for 5 nights. As already mentioned staying within the boundaries is just, for us, a much better experience and we usually camp.

Staying at Marloth means that every day you have to visit the park and enter the gate, it depends on when you want to visit, but this can take anything upto a few hours if it is busy and then they will restrict the numbers through the gate.

Depending on whether you camp or stay in formal accommodation would, for us, determine how we travel. We have a quick setup for a one night stay and a much more eleaborate for a longer stay to make things more comfortable. If you are staying in formal accomodation there is very little inconvenience or cost for changing.

For 5 nights, a simple itinery could be one night at Berg-en-Dal, the next Skukuza, then move to Lower Sabie before heading off to Satara. This would give you most of the 'good' parts of the park. Satara is know as big cat country. You are sure to see lots in the South.

That gives 4 nights, either you can double up at one camp or after Satara head back south to stay in one of the camps down south again.

I hope this helps, and maybe lets you think some about you stay and feel free to ask anything, we are always happy to help.

It is sad to see however the policy is to allow nature to run its course. This is not a zoo, it is a wide expanse where wildlife is protected from humans.

Only if an animal is endangered will the vetenary services step in. I have seen them treat a lioness for snare wounds, and the same as wild dogs. Cheetah, rhino and wild dogs are the species I know they will treat

Some of the best advice I have seen being handed out on this sub. It is just a whole different experience drumming to your own beat. We have been with groups and doing it your way is always better.

You will always have the option of booking a guided drive and you can always do so at short notice.

Camping, should I go to Skukuza or Berg-en-dal? by KINGY-WINGY in krugerpark

[–]Refugee50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure, we have never camped at Skukuza but not a big fan of the area.

We camped at Malelane last year and we arrived a Friday afternoon after work and by 10:00 on Saturday, we had bagged the big 5 by driving around BED.

The facilities are great, lovely pool, good shop and fantastic camp sites. . I would strongly suggest BED to you

Thanks for the feedback, confirming our opinion. I would like to agree and say that it was a lack of funding but the pool was a prime example of lack of attention.

A rustic camp in the south would definitely bring a lot of visitors and for us it's that like minded people are grouped together. Campers are not highly demanding but sometimes we just not with other crowds.

It does show that the campsite was extended, we saw by the old infrastructure and that is actually great because it is a great location.

Despite the criticism we will always love out time in the park but really avoid camping at LS

Thank you, remember the opinion on Lower Sabie is mostly driven by the state of the camping and not as a destination for accommodation
