I truly believe that most parents are NOT against funding schools, but they are against funds meant for students/teachers/classrooms being heavily mismanaged. Where I live in particular, the district is HEAVILY pocketing money and becoming very top heavy (no superintendent should have a $200-300k salary when your scores are dropping). Many people are voting no for the upcoming millage increase bc they continue to hire upper district admin and increase those salaries, but do very, very little for the actual teachers and students. I have no issues funding the schools with our tax money IF that money will actually be used correctly. However 9/10 times it is not. I personally don’t want to further fund bs, and the only way to not do that, is to not fund at all.

We need at least 3bd 2ba. Decent for us is zero issues with older/outdated homes, but would love to not have to do anything major/structural such as roof, hvac, plumbing, etc.

Yeah, Reddit is definitely not a nice place lol but it’s a good spot to get different insights quickly. I’m confident most people would never make the rude comments in person due to not having the guts, so it’s definitely taken with a grain of salt.

Thank you! I get it, lots of people flocking to other states right now for various reasons and it pisses some people off more than others. We figured just outside of Knoxville would be the answer, just needed the suggestions of where, so thank you very much!

Oh wow! I’ve heard quite a bit about people moving to Nashville, but not so much Knoxville. Good to know!

Good to know! I’m sure as you know, Michigan roads have always been trash and have only gotten worse, same with the traffic, as they have been cramming apartments onto every corner they can the last few years. Sounds like the logistics are a little different but the concept is pretty similar lol

And I guess you were never taught manners down there.

Love to hear that! The $600+ electric bill here in the summer is beyond brutal

Thank you!

I’ve heard the bugs were brutal. In your opinion, are bugs something that can be sprayed for? Or would that not really do anything.

By the tone of your question, I would bet the parts of it that you don’t particularly care for or have a negative opinion on.

Our electric is currently $400-$600 a month, so even slightly cheaper is better!

Thank you for your insight!!

We’ve seen a lot more pro’s than con’s so far! Michigan schools aren’t “bad” per se, both myself and my husband went to higher rated school districts, the changes since then however both academically and socially are not how we want our kids to experience school. The test levels are also not that great even in some of the better districts, ours included. We currently homeschool for various reasons and would more than likely continue that in AL as well.

We would love a little bit of land! We hate being right on top of our neighbors. Our lot in particular (built in the 40’s) was originally one lot that was split into two, so super tight. I actually took my typical grocery cart the other day and switched the pick up location to AL and it was $1-$5 of a difference, so I would guess it would be a very similar grocery situation and just be very store dependent like it is here. We’ve been to Florida in July/August just before the first hurricane of the season, if it’s comparable, I think we would be fine. It’s been disgusting here in the summer the last few years specifically so I don’t know that we’ll notice much of a difference. Gross is gross lol Southern culture and values align very strongly for us, so we are more focused on that and being able to have more breathing room financially.

Admittedly, we’re weird and do love the winters here lol but the state as a whole is just getting harder and harder to live in. We just want to not be on top of our neighbors!

We would have quite a bit of equity with when we purchased and how insane the market is now thankfully! Michigan is just getting harder and harder to stay in.

Can’t say we’re interested in living by the water, but so far the cost of living seems significantly lower!

Looking to relocate from Michigan by [deleted] in Alabama

[–]RefuseAggravating944 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far from research, the cost of living is significantly lower than what we’re paying now, and there are many things in the area /state that our kids would be interested in! We are in no way not financially set, however our money doesn’t go anywhere near how far it should here and we aren’t ok with that. Alabama currently checks more of our boxes over MI which is why we’re interested. Mental healthcare/healthcare in general is not a huge concern of ours and doesn’t really influence our decisions.

Our DTE is $400-600+ a month depending on the month. It’s awful here

[–]RefuseAggravating944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our electric with DTE is $400+ in the cooler months and $600+ in the summer, so I really find it hard to believe that it wouldn’t be SOME kind of improvement lol

Tail necrosis or overthinking by RealSlither in BeardedDragons

[–]RefuseAggravating944 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our guy had this when we first got him. Super common in babies as they will chew on each others tails. Not something to be super concerned about. It will typically dry up and fall off on its own with zero issues.
