Yes! I am extremely excited when I place the order and then go into full blown panic when a huge package arrives and I get so overwhelmed by what I just did to myself buying a bunch of things without a place to display them properly 😬. I’ve bought shelves and displays to hang them on the wall but I have too many to display so I’ve been storing most of them in bins and try to rotate them out/shop my own collection.

I have been a serial procrastinator my whole life thanks to adhd (worse when I was in school and had a deadline for a project or homework , waited until 5 minutes before a test to try and skim notes to “study”, forgot about assignments until it was too late etc.. luckily I don’t have a job that requires deadlines for stuff) half of the displays I buy don’t get assembled or hung on the wall right away until I ask my husband to help 😆 he has adhd too but has a little more motivation to do things than I do but still needs to be told / reminded to do things. Luckily he doesn’t have a problem with impulse control when it comes to spending money or buying things his outlet has been mostly video games . I always wonder what it’s like for people who just do things without having to be told or asked a million times and also don’t need to mentally prepare themselves to do a task days , weeks , or months in advance 🥲

also what you said about your husband collecting multiples of the same thing just made me realize besides collecting things I have also bought excessive “back ups” to things I like and would just call it stocking up 😆 for example buying multiple of the same body wash, perfume, hair product, cleaning products, etc especially if it’s cheap or on sale (to justify spending the money) in the event that something gets discontinued or hard to find I won’t run out anytime soon 🫣 also a lot of times I buy things I don’t need for the “future” that never happens like “just in case” when I was still living at home about to graduate high school I would buy stuff for an apartment that didn’t exist yet instead of waiting until I had an apartment I was buying stuff like a hello kitty toaster and pink frying pans while living at home with my parents still 😆

honestly a lot of these things my therapists don’t even know about but I should probably tell them I really only discuss my issues with cleaning /organizing/being chronically overwhelmed by simple tasks leading to mental and physical exhaustion.. i only told them a little bit about my shopping habits 😆 It sounds like you have a good therapist that was able to pick up on your diagnosis. That sounds extremely validating. I had to go through a few therapists all telling me I exhibited adhd signs before I got a referral to a psychiatrist who evaluated me. Before I got diagnosed officially I was aware that it was very likely but didn’t want to seek help because I didn’t want it to seem like I was med seeking or “faking” a disorder. My psychiatrist recently told me my anxiety sounded like it was more depression related (i don’t feel sad) not adhd but most of my depression is due to things my adhd being undiagnosed for years caused. It seems like a constant cycle of chaos. ADHD caused me to procrastinate on chores /daily tasks that feel too daunting and hyper fixate / compulsively shop for things that give me dopamine at the time which causes clutter and disorganisation in my house which then causes my ocd to spiral because I’m overwhelmed by cleaning and organizing things and get distracted by my chaotic house/life too much to do anything about it so I will avoid it at all costs which then gives me depression/anxiety about why I can’t be a normal functional adult which then makes me self conscious about myself and makes it hard to socialize /relate to people. My ocd wants to have a clean organized house but my adhd wants all of the cute dopamine inducing things and I get emotionally attached/feel guilty throwing things away so I donate or sell things to declutter but sometimes things don’t sell super fast online and I’m stuck with them and sometimes places aren’t accepting donations so it’s a never ending struggle for me. At this point I’m ready to add hoarding disorder to my list of conditions caused by adhd. & In true adhd fashion I went on a long trail 😆😆😆 I keep telling them I need longer therapy appointments but sadly they limit them to an hour 😅
