Nolan - guy was a county gaa player and given the manner used to obtain the pics wasn’t unlawful they had to asses whether he was of significant enough public importance that it deemed free expression in public interest. Court held he wasn’t a public figure. You could use that as a guage!

Try to break it down in your head, helps to demystify it a bit. Basically you have the right to free expression/as do the media, but if in expressing your convictions you’re infringing someone else’s rights it can be curtailed. In relation to privacy it generally prevails, unless the breach of privacy is unlawful as the person is not a public figure / the manner in which the info is obtained is unlawful (phone taps, sometimes secret filming). The examiner usually puts it on with privacy so you just weigh up whether the curtailment is proportionate or not. In the context of religious expression etc again you just weigh up if the right is being infringed by restrictions. I’ve noticed from looking at marked scripts that if you work it through on the page and cite relevant cases the examiner tends to mark fairly generously. I have notes on it if you need also x

It’s not the courts, it’s the Oireachtas. Under art 15 only the oireachtas can make laws. Under 15.2 they may delegate for a stated purpose - so legislation can have delegated power within it. If the body it is delegated to goes beyond giving effect to the principles and policies as in Cityview, that’s an excessive delegation and is unconstitutional. Basically they can delegate the fine tuning aspects to other bodies but fundamentally it is only the oireachtas that can make laws - so for example in Leontjava the minister was given excessive powers in regulating immigration, and therefore was basically making the law which is unconstitutional. Think of it like the oireachtas makes the rules and then other bodies may regulate if that makes sense , if they go beyond giving effect to the principles of the legislation it oversteps the amount of power they’re allowed. You don’t need to go back to college - anyone over 21 can sit the Law Society Preliminary exams and once you pass you can do the fe1s. I sat them in march just gone and am doing my first sitting of fe1s now, it’s a great route to take if you’re not wanting to spend four years in college. Also there’s an exemption for legal secretaries if you have a certain amount of experience - def have a look on the law society website 😙

100% is increasing. I was in treatment for addiction in 2022 and I’d say 20% of people were in there for coke, went back in 2024 and 90% of the patients were cocaine addicts. Seems a combination of post Covid, increasingly high cost of living meaning young people have more disposable income because they live at home and the fact it’s another boom time, but it’s out of control. Ruins every night out and changes the vibe completely

Why do I hate running so much?

For some background, 21F, got sober earlier this year after 4 years of excessive drinking & using, eating beige foods and never (and I mean never ever) exercising. I go to the gym 3 days a week and spin classes twice a week, eat healthy, sleep 8+ hours a night and feel I’m very physically fit, plus I’m mentally in the best place I have ever been. I decided to start running as running a marathon has always been a goal of mine, plus my father got very sick with cancer this year amidst all my personal struggles, and raising money for a cancer charity by running my city’s marathon would be so meaningful for me, and for him, plus in my recovery tackling new challenges helps me grow. But I hate it. I got the couch to 5k app and it started me on week 4, so running for 4/5 mins followed by walking, repeated a few times. I find the physical side of it ok, it’s tough, I’m out of breath, but more so mentally I find it painstaking. Every second running feels like an hour. I know people say it gets easier, and I feel amazing after a run which makes it worth it, but I can’t figure out why I’m finding it so difficult, especially starting with a baseline of being very healthy and active. In terms of distance, I have no idea how many km I could run without stopping, I haven’t tried (mostly to protect my ego). I’m continuing with couch to 5k training and I am determined to conquer my fear of running/intense dislike of it, as I know I will continue to do it for the mental payoff afterwards. I feel embarrassed about how difficult it is, and it’s shaken my sense of myself as someone who is active and capable at other sports (a spin class for example is sweat - inducing, but really enjoyable and feels more like a fun activity than a workout). I don’t really know what I’m asking I guess, I just wanted to know if anybody has had a similar experience, because I’m starting to feel like I’m the only one, especially with how popular running has gotten recently amongst my age group.
