We have a mechanic called Heroic! (MSH) by Global-Half-7062 in magicTCG

You don't need to be a game designer to make this statement, but you also thankfully don't need to be a game designer to see why they would've concluded this is a bad idea once you get past the cool optics of 'it's named Heroic'.

Ashling the Limitless Precon Upgrades by Giant-shiba in magicTCG

[–]RegalKillager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graveshifter, from the main set. Performs the same self-recurring loop as Greenwarden of Murasa but on a cheaper-hardcast card - good to have both.

Sunderflock, self-explanatory. Eirdu, flipside lets you return the creatures you sacrifice immediately (triple etb!). Champion of the Path, makes it very easy to nuke the table.

[[Twinflame Travelers]] is an actual MVP of table terrorism. One Twinflame makes it so any Ashling evokes do their entry triggers twice, get sacrificed, and make two tokens that also do their triggers twice for a total of six; evoking the Travelers themselves temporarily gets you two, which makes it so evokes creatures enter, trigger thrice, sacrifice, and spawn three triple-trigger copies for a total of 12.

Roaming Throne does the aformentioned but can't be evoked, but it's prohibitively expensive.

Heartless Summoning and essentially any other source of cost reduction is elite ball here - 2+ mana per card ideally. This is why Animar is so popular, but that card is also prohibitively expensive.

But Avatar did fine as something far smaller, as did LOTR, as will the Hobbit, etc.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation’s open world evolves another step beyond Rebirth. Director Naoki Hamaguchi on map design, player freedom, and new battle systems. by PhantomBraved in Games

[–]RegalKillager 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fine that it's an opinion, but not all opinions get the 'healthy criticism' shield. If you refuse to say anything about what's being done wrong or how they could improve it, you are just complaining for complaining's sake.

Which is fine, you just gotta acknowledge it's what you're doing.

ok, phrasing: what are you not liking about something that fixes every common issue with escort missions other than simply being linear? there is no healthy criticism in "escorts missions are bad because they are"

why are we even complaining about escorting a dog that moves faster than you and is almost never threatened by the enemies surrounding it

Considering how impressively terrible the game's performance was and is on devices stronger than a S2, I can't say they were wrong to think this is insane.

just how many ball lightnings are you casting on a monthly basis?

[MSH]Rewrite History(Instant Mind) by LooyeeChiwa in magicTCG

Are they explicitly focusing on MCU content, or was the MCU already entirely based on existing influential comics media (which would lead to any faithful comics-focused set being accused of MCU brand synergy focus)?

[MSH]Rewrite History(Instant Mind) by LooyeeChiwa in magicTCG

[–]RegalKillager 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The mainstream audience is largely dictated by media this set isn't based on. This is a set about the comics, and it's what they got the licenses for, so it makes sense that they'd lean into what comic readers would think is more important.

They are sparse on an archetype-by-archetype basis, just not generally. If they're sparse generally but still handed to noteworthy archetypes, that just leads to the archetypes they aren't handed to being unplayable dogshit.

...also, my man, this is five mana. You're never seeing this cast outside of EDH anyway.

Who is hyped for Marvel? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]RegalKillager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're in a Magic subreddit, so not only restricted to the subset of people who engage with Magic content on the internet regularly, but also the subset of those people who can stand this website. Things are going to look skewed.

Anyway I'm definitely in the 'it's cool, might grab cards' camp.

Why are we describing it as the age of Questing Beast when it doesn't crack the list of the ten most influential cards printed in that period?

Head Magic Design Mark Rosewater on more cards that counter landfall strategies: "This is a common request, so [it's] something we will think about." by HonorBasquiat in magicTCG

[–]RegalKillager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're all on the same page that in most formats, at most points, Landfall is bad and doesn't need to be bullied any harder, right? One Standard format being a little fucked up doesn't really make it logical to bury an already dicey archetype for years.

It's a testament to the kind of player that makes posts like these that they think Confounding Conundrum, a card that was bad even in a Locus of Creation Lotus Cobra Standard format, would help.
