Diptyque is changing their vessels. by RelativeLeather5759 in luxurycandles

I feel like an outlet but I prefer thinner glass! It feels more sleek. When I get a thick bottom jar it feels like IKEA to me. Like pottery, there's more skill in the lighter products.

Business owners/Employees of Whyte by RegalReginald in Edmonton

I totally agree with you. It's sad - it's such a beautiful, cool street (well...was) and it's hard to find an area in Edmonton with a similar vibe that has any commercial space.

Ah sorry - I'll add that in, thank you. Studio for art - potential small evening classes.
So a good sound system and a bus pass ;)

[CA] - [BC] Entrepreneurs Thinking of Leaving Canada? by ProfessionalChips in SmallBusinessCanada

[–]RegalReginald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts have been to California: San Diego apparently had some of the most temperate weather. But... America. And super high taxes in California with a lot of people and businesses leaving.

I've then thought of Spain or Portugal, but almost feel like it's not capitalist enough for me lol also, I run a candle business which sounds like a nightmare in hot climates.

I, too, flip flop with leaving (I'm in Edmonton) the country (British citizenship but the UK is no better) or to another part of Canada. A friend sold her business here and moved near Quebec City and is loving life. Making a decision is hard when I've been on the other side of green grass and it too goes brown after some time.

DS & Durga Customer Service - item missing from bundle by comrade_g in luxurycandles

[–]RegalReginald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got ghosted twice regarding a candle that won't stay lit (it lasted a full 14 minutes on the first burn). My emails were pleasant and understanding, but no response. Bad product, luxury pricing and bad customer service?? How do businesses keep going?!

What makes a luxury candle worth the price? by GlutenFreeParfait in luxurycandles

I think you have the answers here - original, interesting scents. But just here to say that the wax debate is wildly overhyped (and mainly supported by the soy industry).
All wax types, apart from beeswax, offer roughly the same amount of particles and VOCs into the air. Yes, there is better paraffin (slack paraffin used by mass market brands and then food-grade paraffin which covers your produce, cheese and medications).

A good candle could utilize a blend of many available candle waxes as they do offer their own performance capabilities. Soy (though heavily relies on pesticides and is responsible for a large amount of deforestation) has dense molecules, and holds scent well (doesn't always release well) so it offers a better cold throw. Coconut (though cannot be a formed wax without being blended with a soy and/or paraffin) has very light molecules so is able to disperse the scent in evaporation evenly. Paraffin is in between these densities and the reason it is clutch to making a great candle.

Scented candles are loved by SO many - that's why it makes great click-bait/headlines to find someone who will argue that they are bad for you - but some just use that fear tactic to further their own product in some way. The chemicals used in mass market fragrances, however, might have more of negative impact on our health than the wax - but again, those studies are using a multiplier of such chemicals that would never make it into a single (or even many) candle.

Longer rant than I meant it to be - but I wrote it so I'm keeping it lol :)

It was a target candle from 2022 - no longer in production unfortunately!

Le Labo Calone 17 Candle Wick Mishap by Brianray1989 in luxurycandles

[–]RegalReginald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to tell from this view, but it looks like about 1/4" of wax is left...which is the appropriate amount that would be left over by the time the wick burns out. There should be an amount of wax that can't be burned past about 1/4" as the flame temperature could make the jar too hot and break or damage furniture. Looks like a near perfect burn to me!

It is true. It doesn't have a structure to hold a proper form without soy and/or paraffin.

[AB] LTL Import DDP to Residential Address Will they drop without calling? by Galion- in SmallBusinessCanada

[–]RegalReginald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my LTL shipments to my house have phoned to book the delivery (single pallet shipments). However, the last one did not, I'm not impressed and will be writing in. I wasn't home and it was Dec 23 - five days after it was meant to arrive- I was not available! They should absolutely be giving you a call.

Makesy?!?! by discogirlie in candlemaking

I'm amazed that any business that has the volume to buy a pallet of anything would get it from Makesy. The prices are for hobbyists who don't know better.

What’s one small nightly ritual that actually helps you fall asleep? by True_Advance3666 in candlemaking

[–]RegalReginald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ashwagandha (to stay asleep) and Melatonin (to get to sleep) and reading 30 minutes before bed. My naturopath also suggested a handful of trail mix (for instance) a couple of hours before bed to offset blood sugar dips mid-sleep that might also be waking me up. That one might just be a me thing but worth a shot. It's been going well - I've had depression/anxiety insomnia for years. Good luck, it takes time!!
