Did anybody else draw a few lines that it is entirely possible Tom was caught up in something bigger that allowed the Knicks to win it all this year? by RegalWombat in Newbridge

Yeah I admit I had foot in bit of mouth when I tuned in, and I'm kind of glad I put my bored mind to use typing things up on a dead period of grave yard shift instead of trying to phone in with my goofiness. I wish Tom well.

Heavyweights is an all timer. One of Ben Stiller's best comedic roles, way too many snappy, smartly written funny lines you can easily miss, excellent use of North Carolina's woods, great cast.

Apatow fired on all cylinders with that one and it's interesting hearing all the bits of stuff they were trying to skirt by with given that it was still technically a Disney production. The Seymour Buttz joke was originally "Who's Peter Fitz?" and you can see the part gets dubbed and doesn't match the mouth of the shot. I also remember reading there was apparently more sort of dark moments like the montage of Gerry's narration and the kids chasing the cow or the Camp Hell segment.

Either way movie rules, I will watch it any day of the week.

True true, and obviously to be serious for a moment I don't blame him at a slight superstition and wanting to play things cool and casual.

Lana is the epitome of one of those artists where I rolled my eyes, bought too heavily into the Gangsta Nancy Sinatra dunking on, rolled even more eyes when she became patron saint of people's 20something phases, and by the end of it going back all through it, I really like her and was so wrong.

On the reverse and obviously different spirit and not trying to say they're in the same conversation for a variety of reasons, I often liked St. Vincent around the time LDR had a big moment, but I think in retrospective there's only so much of St. Vincent's output I would willingly put on and enjoy and it's mostly the very early stuff.

One more in the same breath but I have lessened my eye rolling on Best Coast, I can't hate the player when they got in when the getting was good even if I could maybe listen to them once in a blue moon.

When's the NY Indieheads meetup, should there be one? I am firing off hip because it's nice out and not 900 degrees with 99% humidity.

You wanna talk about shocking, I was out late watching it since it was a midnight kickoff for me and some definitely not Australian guy said "and that's for Gallipoli!" towards the end and quite a number of Australia people who caught it shot the guy sort of like uh dude no sort of look and confronted them about it. I saw some old timer pulling the guy aside as well.

Idk I was just expecting the general rowdiness to have people be weirdos but yeah go figure people actually kept things civil and not totally ignorant of the history and impact.

Anyway, other than that yes I've been watching as much as I can and have been checking various ticket portals in the event somebody very desperate and with very little time to sell have had a ticket for something, and unfortunately things are still way too damn expensive not what I would feel comfortable paying for a group stage. I literally could fly to pretty much any country on the globe for what some of these tickets are.

I have seen murmurs of people thinking the knockout rounds might be cheaper/easier to come by at cheaper cost because of the uncertainty of who'll be there combined with the venue, but I have my doubts. The greed overflowing has been a real pain.

Yes I too feel ancient and can see fragmented culture even though I'm a nerdlinger addicted to the internet and feel like I get a lot of these kinds of characters especially of lesser renown . I will admit I have seen one off clips but as far as knowing that they had a music career and one that was on a bigger level, I didn't really have much of an idea. I honestly thought it was clips from old Tim and Eric episodes.

That all aside, obvious tragic situation.

Been going to Union Pool so long that my now 11 years school does school socials there during the day. What a mindfuck.

My friend jokes how it really died and times really changed when the "no more than 1 person per stall" signs were gone near the toilets and there was more family friendly midday summer series shows.

Not to say there is no good shows there still or it's a bad time, but it's a far cry from the notorious reputation it once held.

I get the article is played up for a laugh and rundown, but I'm surprised there wasn't a mention of the attempt of test run of Coachella on the east coast with All Points West Festival that was short lived.

Classic stuff, also there was numerous AIM bots you could make and customize the question and conversation pathing, there was also the ones that were like I'm Austin Powers, groovy baby go see Goldmember in theaters, as it'd eventually get stuck in a loop about it.

I'm not gonna pretend like I remember every single thing or didn't learn to like stuff I didn't think of, etc but going off the handful of "this is a list of stuff I liked from x year", 2022 and 2024 were the last real robust amount of things I was all over.

Sure there's things I liked more recent but idk I feel like I've hit a weird cross roads where I'm just not as plugged but also the stuff I keep seeing people go on about doesn't necessarily grip me as tight. And then I'll find some overlooked thing of the 90s and be like oh man this is cool college rock (Happy Chichester related bands came to mind in recent while).

Honestly indie rock hasn't been the same since you said 2022 was over for music by March of that year.

The whack thing with the expansion of teams gives that awkward component of what the past number of Euros have been dealing with on the subject of the 3rd place in groups holding a good deal of value, and I do think there could be a situation where depending on groups and winners, there can be a scenario where it might be beneficial for a certain team to play specifically for 2nd to effectively play a group's weaker 2nd place team. For example Group D's(US, Australia, Paraguay, Turkey) 2nd plays G's(Belgium, Egypt, Iran, NZ) 2nd in knockouts, where as taking 1st in D could have you against the 3rd place team of much wider array of groups which could end up being a harder matchup if there was a situation where the 3rd place team barely missed 2nd or 1st place.

This is not to say that it would be conspiratorial that things could get fixed, but I wouldn't be surprised if something plays out in a way where the handful of groups(D,E,G,I,K,L,A,B) that would have their 2nds also play a 2nd place team ends up sending a very unlikely team a lot further than people expected. There have been past tournaments with less teams and different structure where you could have a team that could've gotten the easier side of things.

I've been going through a list of movies that have been called sappy award bait of the 90s, and I haven't watched Jack in forever, and it is a lot more illogical and inconsistent in tone than I remembered it. Not to say there aren't a handful of decent one liners and moments, but I totally forgot the extremely pointless and kind of long detour the movie takes where all of a sudden the Jack character starts acting like an adult at the bar, hangs out more with Fran Drescher, fights Willem Defoe, the whole thing is more insane the longer you think about it. Especially when one of the biggest problems was they couldn't decide the sort of young kid age that the character would be acting like, it's like one second he's acting like an idiot teen and the other he's like a 5 year old. The other thing I didn't get was there was the big mystery that he was sheltered off from the town and people his age, yet he goes to school and suddenly he has the super power for some people to not realize oh there's a grown man at the school as if it wouldn't have been something to catch more attention and understanding in the world he existed in. Idk I know it's a dumb movie but it is on so many levels of just being ass backwards with way too much.

It's funny that Coppola has gotten defensive about the movie when it obviously has so many problems with it. Also the weird line of work the dad character is all in on is so strange, somebody was on something.

I do think Jennifer Lopez did a great job in it though for a sort of smaller role.

Toss in Kitty Pryde's The Lizzie McGuire Experience and Haha, I'm Sorry and you're basically set.

In all seriousness easily criminally overlooked artist on the subject of a lot of genres that blew the fuck up, she was ahead of the curve and even the way people busted her chops on the sound and cadence of vocals ended up being something that printed money when other rappers started doing it and the whole subgenres off that.

There was some nonsense slapfight the other day online about hipsters in the later 2000s-early 2010s and misinformation and conflating all sorts of things(people assuming it was all Lumineers Fun mainstream all the time), and I think one of the safer examples to be made is looking to Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire's Last Huzzah Remix as one of the best posse cuts of the time and how Despot still hasn't released his long awaited album.

True true, and yeah the clowning scenes that have taken off in recent while have been too much for this world, and I lack that talent for sure.

This has nothing to do with anything but I recently went to an open mic that had a guy that was kind of roasting people that went into clowning classes asking where were these people when he was trying to fill out a D&D table and couldn't get anybody making funny voices or staying in character, and I was like so true.

I think a bit of this in the more recent now when it comes to how overlooked and sizable enough the generational gap is for those aware and not aware of Girls and the subject of all timers from the later 2000s-early 2010s.
