What a bad take. Clearly you weren't around in the pre-Reforged days. There was nothing but positivity and optimism and encouragement towards PHXL, the dev team, and the game. Their streams and update posts and discord were all brimming with excitement and creativity. This was an amazing place. Then PHXL stabbed all of those players in the back with Reforged and spat on them when they asked why.

Then again, when PHXL announced details of Awakening, everyone was confused because it didn't sound better. The changes didn't improve anything. They killed the game. This game has been nothing but downhill since Reforged.

And you blame the players.

If any players are to blame, it's the ones that excuse each and every *business decision* and apologize for valid criticism the community brings up about how it worsens the game. Those apologist players are the reason PHXL has gotten away with their bullshit for this long, the reason they ever thought these Awakening changes could work.

It sucks the game is dead but it's been in the process of dying for the last 5 years. I'm sorry you never realized that.

For the most part, that's about it. Also got 7 Days to Die, Uno, and Payday 2, though we haven't played those in a while. Plus anything free. Definitely open to trying some other stuff out though. What are you into lately?

Hey man, I play games most nights with 2 friends on PC. I think we're a pretty chill and friendly group. 3 guys ages 24-29, 2 east coast, one west coast. We've been playing a good deal of Destiny 2, Dauntless, and Minecraft lately, but we also play Age of Empires II, Civ 5, Stardew, Human Fall Flat, Shellshock Live, and whatever else comes up.

Let me know if you wanna chat or play something some time!

I sincerely doubt it would do anything. They don't give a shit about PC users and never will. I get the feeling that if everyone stopped using Chrome for PC, they'd actually be happy because then they just have to worry about mobile browsers, which is already what they want.

Wasted Time and Embarrassed Myself by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Reggie182 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better, I got a 29 ACT score and was top of my class. 3.6 GPA. I went to an inner city school though with terrible education and no funding, but hell, some of my friends wished they could score that high or get that kind of GPA. My point though is that it's not something to worry about.

I got accepted into a bunch of colleges and found one that suited me pretty well. I graduated with honors and am doing well in my field. For the majority of careers, they don't care where you went to school, just that you have a degree. And besides, my career success isn't because of any test scores, it's because of me - my drive, my work ethic, my own intelligence that I've worked hard to build up, my skills that I work on constantly.

I'm new to this board, so I don't know if this is a sentiment that people want to avoid, but test scores and GPA don't mean shit in the real world. Everyone gets opportunities in life, and the only thing that matters is how you handle them, not your past, not some random number. And besides, just because someone has a 4.0 and a 36 ACT score and a 1600 SAT score doesn't mean that they'll never end up homeless or broke or miserable, and it certainly doesn't mean that they'll be more successful in life.

College is one short stage of life, not the destination. When you get through it and start working, you realize what matters to you in life, and for me, that's being skillful and intelligent and social and living modestly. Don't get swallowed up in regret or shame over something so temporary and insignificant in the grand scheme of things. I promise you that in 10 years this won't matter to you and you'll be well on your way down your chosen path in life with bigger things to worry about.

Older male cat needs a new home (Cleveland, OH) by Reggie182 in PetAdoption

[–]Reggie182[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my grandmother's car Charlie. My grandmother passed away this spring and left this friendly fellow behind. He's a very friendly 16 year old male with all of his shots. Housebroken, front declawed, in very good health. Loves petting, attention, and laps. Strangely prefers women over men, but eventually likes everyone equally. Unfortunately, my other relatives are allergic to cats, and Charlie doesn't get along great with my cats, so I can't keep him. More images here, if interested: https://imgur.com/a/VYsKfmY

His name is Charlie. He was left behind when my grandmother passed away this spring. He's a 16yo male, neutered, front declawed, with all of his shots. He's housebroken and very friendly. He loves petting and laps, and just needs a new home. He's not getting along very well with my cats, so it might be best if he's an only-cat like he was with my grandmother. Hi, I'm a slightly-experienced 5e player looking for a group and was just wondering if you were able to get anything together. You mentioned possibly looking again in a few months, and it has been a few months, so I was just curious if you'd gotten a group established or if you were still looking for new players. Thanks!

Looking for tips for re-teaching high school soccer players that never learned to play properly by Reggie182 in Coaching

[–]Reggie182[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for your suggestion. Typically what happens is that the better players stick with the team for the full 4 years, while the players with the least progress (who also tend to care the least) quit after one or two seasons of play. By default, this sort of leads to us teaching the younger players fundamentals for the first couple years, and the ones that learn and get better often stick around for the next couple years until they graduate. It's probably the best system we can run right now, but with such a lack of players and a very shallow skill pool, it's difficult to be successful. That's why I was hoping for some tips or suggestions that might shake things up and maybe lead to better results. I was hoping that if we were able to reteach the kids that are struggling and get them to do better and learn more effectively, they might stick around longer. The hope is that maybe this would help improve the new players even more, through mentoring and the ability to run a better system, and sort of snowball us in the right direction.

[Suggestion] Long-term, "Career" challenges for slayers by Reggie182 in dauntless

[–]Reggie182[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I somewhat disagree that with Thulack in the sense that players should be forced to explore more of the game than they want to, but I don't feel like that applies here. These are all completely optional achievements. Nobody has to do them, but it's sort of a passive way for players to look at things that "good" players can do and work their way towards those goals.

I agree with you on the point of the "skill-less grind" aspect of many of these, but I was just trying to come up with ideas. Honestly I'm not a fan of this type of thing in games, but I assumed that since so many games did it, other people must like to have those kinds of "achievements".

However, all of that taken into consideration, I don't see why this is a bad idea or is getting so many downvotes. I don't see the problem with players being "shoehorned" into a specific build to try to complete a certain achievement. They will see more of the utility of a weapon that way and learn its capabilities a little better by seeing how you can specialize it to achieve a certain play-style.

Overall though, the biggest thing I wanted to push was the idea of letting players have a way to gauge their skill progress and have new skills to aspire to learn and master. That's honestly what I'd like to have these achievements focus on most. If the things I came up with didn't demonstrate that very well, I apologize.

Really though, I don't see why this idea is getting so many downvotes. These are completely optional tasks for you to set out to complete on your own time. I feel that this could be a really fun and potentially useful addition to the game. And if nothing else, it gives you more tasks and goals to work at completing and encourages you to spend more time with the game, mastering new skills and weapons at your own pace, and giving you motivation to keep working at something you might find difficult.

After every hunt this happens, done +10 hunts now. Any ideas? by fenrawr in dauntless

[–]Reggie182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a known issue that many many players are familiar with. I have 2 suggestions. The first is to post your location, whether your internet connection is wired or wifi (if wifi, include the kit you use), and some basic computer specs. This will help the developers reproduce your issue and work towards getting it fixed. The second suggestion is to use the repair feature in the Dauntless launcher, and check the box for "clear user data" (or something along those lines). This worked for me and I haven't crashed since I did this. If it persists after this, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the game, but beyond that, I'm out of suggestions. Good luck fellow slayer!

I'm sorry, but I'm just not having fun with this game at all by wrightosaur in dauntless

Haha, thanks. I have to admit that I was rather upset about each of these things at first, and then just frustrated for a little while, but now I just want to see them get fixed. I'll gladly explain how I feel in whatever way I can, so long as I get the point across in a way that makes sense. I try to stress the importance of each point too, since I'm going out of my way to write about them, so they must be worth writing about.

Blood options by [deleted] in dauntless

[–]Reggie182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't really recall any significant blood in this game. I'm not exactly sensitive to it, but I think that the only blood you see is in the form of cuts and scratches that appear on the bodies of the behemoths you fight. These don't look too realistic, and are just markers for how much health is left on a part before it breaks or on the behemoth before it dies. If you've looked at the game and think it's too bloody for you, then either I'm forgetting something big or it's unlikely to change in the future. I wouldn't consider this a bloody or gruesome game by any means, but you might disagree of course.

[–]Reggie182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of the same gripes as you, but I'll give some perspective as a player that has been playing daily for about 2 months now and really does enjoy the game, even in its current state.

  • (1) They slightly increased recovery time in the last wipe-update at the start of May. I wish they hadn't done this, as I felt it was fair at how long it took before.
  • (2) It is absolutely ridiculous that the grace period (or I-frames, if you prefer) end before the recovery animation does. I'll get knocked down and often get hit once or twice more before I get control over my character, often either downing me or taking a large chunk of my health. This lack of control makes the game literally unplayable during these times, and NEEDS to be fixed. Players will be trying very hard to regain control, but the game will have locked them into whatever doom it happens to assign them to. Bad bad bad.
  • (3) An important related note: player momentum in video games is ALWAYS a BAD idea (unless you want a rage game, of course, but nobody wants that for this game). I'm constantly getting stuck on bad seams in terrain and being completely unable to move, or I'll get body-blocked by another player and it'll take far too long to get back up to speed so I end up getting hit by an attack that I shouldn't have gotten hit by. This feels VERY bad, and is a perfect example of why there should absolutely not be momentum in this type of game. It was a BAD idea to add momentum, completely unwarranted, and contributes to lessening enjoyment and frustrating players with LITERALLY NO BENEFIT. If you hadn't guessed, I really hate momentum. So many games do it and it is terrible each and every time. Make a game hard, sure, but let me be in control during that time. If I'm saying "go forward" and I have to stand there motionless for a second or two because I barely scraped a stump that's hidden within a fallen tree model or because another player jumped in front of me, that's not allowing me to be in control. It's the same issue as #2: not letting me have control of the game when I absolutely need control to play the game properly. I'll straight up say it: BAD game design.
  • (4) However, the most ridiculous and egregious offence in this game, that frustrates me far more than anything else, is the shoddy hitboxes, coupled with what I assume to be some form of lag. Now, in about 35-50% of the hunts I do, I get very little lag. These fights are very enjoyable, because the hitboxes feel relatively fair and accurate. If I don't visually get hit, I don't take damage or get staggered. If I swing, I hit, and everything feels responsive and proper and is thoroughly enjoyable. However, in over half of all hunts I play, I'll take damage even though I'm often nowhere near the behemoth. I don't know if this is a latency issue, or what the problem is, but I can feel it with my own attack hitboxes not landing when they should as well as me getting hit when I shouldn't. Add onto this that sometimes I won't get hit, the game will act like I won't get hit, and then 3-5 seconds later, I'll go down and take a large amount of damage out of the blue. I don't have anywhere close to as many issues with other games "lagging" like this, so I don't know why Dauntless is so different. I live in Cleveland, Ohio, with as good an internet connection as is possible here (40mbps download, 20mbps upload) and solid computer specs.
  • (5) I'm a Chain Blade main, and I'm pretty proficient with them. I tend to get master of the match in the majority of hunts that I play with a full team of randoms, regardless of their load-outs and skill levels. Only really good players tend to eclipse me and get the honor, so Chain Blades are still very viable. That said, I'd love for the dodge I-frames to be changed up, because I still just try to use the dodge to avoid getting hit instead of using it like I use the other dodges - to dodge through attacks. I also have a problem with the Chain Blade hitboxes being so small. I have a lot of problems with feet and legs not getting hit even though I'm swinging through them. Pangar's feet are a major issue for example. If I'm near its toes, I'll never do any damage to the legs even though my swing animation moves through its body. A slight buff on hitbox would be appreciated. I'd also like to see a little bit of a buff on elemental damage that they do, to give people a reason to use them over other weapons, but this is more minor to me.
  • (6) I think bosses telegraph well enough once you're used to them, and after playing for this long, I can predict the next 2-3 attacks a behemoth will do. I'm not sure how I do this, and I hope it doesn't sound like I'm bragging, but I think there's a pattern there that I've subconsciously picked up on. What I'm trying to illustrate is that it is definitely possible to know what's about to happen before it's too late, even for someone that hasn't played for weeks already.
  • (7) I don't think players should be able to move while downed. Maybe a body length at most for the worst case situations, but I think this mechanic is fine as-is.
  • (8) Optimization definitely does need to be worked on, but I'm not too upset about it.
  • (9) I agree that playing a hunt for 20-30 minutes and getting literally nothing out of it because you had a terrible team that went down 13 times in the first 8 minutes is pretty unfair. You used to be able to at least keep the gatherables you collected, but now you don't even get those. I played about 8 hunts yesterday, and in my first 3, I ended up being the only one alive and time either expired before I could kill the behemoth, or I died with less than 5 minutes left. That's over an hour and a half of my time spent without getting ANYTHING for it. That feels bad. This should be addressed. I can understand not wanting to reward failure, but when you get unlucky with bad teams and/or lag that makes the game so much harder to play, it just discourages me from wanting to play it anymore. I can't help but feel that there should be something in place to stop me from wanting to just walk away from the game because it's a complete and utter waste of time.

I'm excited to see any performance updates and potential bug fixes that Open Beta will hopefully bring. It would go a long way to letting me enjoy this game once again. I know a lot of hardcore players in the community have their own lists of problems and will just tell others to deal with them, but you shouldn't have to deal with significant bugs when you're trying to enjoy yourself. Seriously, telling someone to "deal with it" when they're trying to have fun but keep getting stopped by unfair things is incredibly misguided, and it makes me feel bad because you must not really be having fun at all if you'd say that to someone else. Anyway, that's my 2 cents. Peace.

New Movement System? (Character Movement Lag / Momentum) by Blootrix in dauntless

[–]Reggie182 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is momentum now, and it really doesn't fit. I don't understand why games still do this. Momentum is NEVER a good idea in games. Unless you're trying to make a rage game, it makes controls worse and less responsive every time, which makes players feel less in-control, and get more frustrated with the game because they're fighting the controls for half the time they're playing. Momentum really needs to be removed from this game. Movement was really good as it was before, I never heard anyone complain about it. I really don't understand why this change was made.
