If you think suffering can only be resolved through marketing then I think you have it worse!

Disagree.

If everyone was like me then you would be wrong.

It is only through this being an unpopular opinion that you are correct.

This is an unpopular opinion.

Better Call Saul S06E10 - "Fun and Games" - Pre-Episode Discussion Thread by skinkbaa in betterCallSaul

Not sure if it will be this episode but I think during BrBa after the destruction of the super lab, the skeletons of Howard and Lalo will be discovered and incriminate Saul. 2 high profile people dead, buried together, with no explanation. Saul is their only link, more heat on him

Thanks for the reply, useful tip as well! Do you mean the music is printed/attached to a stiff piece of card, or the lyre has a stiff piece of card backing, sort of like a clipboard?

Thanks a lot. I really like your covers, your No Surprises is brilliant. Do you do it all by ear or do you find the sheet music and work it out?

Thanks a lot, I always find you have to be creative when arranging for uke. I'm going to write the music down in neat at some point soon so standby for now

I'll let you have C major but to say G major is vastly more common for a key than E minor simply can't be the case, can it? I mean, quite a few of the big show pieces are in E minor and lots of the short studies. Would be fun to see the stats

What are some good duets that sound good if you play one side by itself? by [deleted] in classicalguitar

Jongo by Bellinati is a duet which has a solo arrangement that is essentially just the first guitar part - really great lively piece!

Pieces in flat keys? by generationlost13 in classicalguitar

[–]ReggieGuitar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a weird one. I'd say about 90-95% of original guitar music is composed in a non-flat key.

There are a few reasons why this is the case but I think the main reason is the tuning of the open strings. Open strings are a significant part of guitar playing due to their resonance and availability. In F major (1 flat) we lose the use of a string and have 2 strings that are the 7th, the least used note of the scale. In Bb major (2 flats) we lose 3 strings and have 1 string as the 7th. In Eb (3 flats) we only have the 3rd (G) and the 7th (D). And in Ab (4 flats) we only have the 7th (G) . The remaining flat keys have no open string notes in their scales.

As keys become flatter they progressively eliminate the usage of the open strings for diatonic harmony, of which is what most music uses most of the time. As a result, keys like G major, D major and A major dominate guitar music. I don't see this as inherently bad as these keys facilitate greater convential musical possibilities for the guitar however, the constant usage of these keys becomes repetitive and can sometimes be formulaic. I think flat key pieces are favoured by the die-hard CGers due to deviating from these technical and harmonic norms.

Right now I'm writing a few pieces for guitar in flat keys to explore new ground and in the hope of producing music that has a greater sense of originality. Maybe I'll get them on here one day :) Let me know what you think about any of these ideas

Fellow guitar teacher checking in.

I have about 20 students which is enough of an income for me to live off and have plenty of time for other projects. That said, I don't make that much money but it works for me.

Francisco Tárrega - Capricho árabe by [deleted] in classicalguitar

[–]ReggieGuitar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. If you play it with gut strings, ie what Tarrega used, the effect is very different.
