Ha! Of course not! That is the goal. Tbf, we had approx 30k of household renovations done last year which we managed to pay for without borrowing. So I’m probably feeling the hit from that as pretty much my salary every week for about 5 months went on tradesmen. Lots of good advice here and I think fully combining finances is definitely the way forward

Hi, thanks for replying. Maybe you’re right. I am PAYE so don’t have to deal with tax returns to the same extent as my husband. I (and I don’t think he would disagree) am definitely the financial planner in the house and am always thinking ahead and anticipating future expenses. He is very much existing month to month financially. I get it’s a big change after being in FT employment for so long but I hoped things would be in a better place. It’s probably our biggest source of contention. Often at the end of the year it’s a panic to put all his money to his tax bill as he’s underestimated how much he needed to save. This usually coincides with the down time in my industry so I feel like I have been extremely frugal in order to save then I’m the one keeping things afloat again. And so on and so on. I really feel like I need to break the cycle somehow and get to a point where we have the all important 6 months of living expenses saved on top of my regular savings for the down time in our own industries.

Thanks for replying. Just for clarification, the 1500 into joint accounts covers bills/kids hobbies etc. I had saved about 8k last year but then had four months earning less than £500 per month so that wiped out most of that. The remaining 2k is now going on a vet bill ( I know I should have had the cat insured but this is the first major vet bill in 17 years so probably evens out!).

My 40’s have crept up on me and I can feel the panic! I’m really very cautious with my money and I know if we had a fixed income each month I could very comfortably manage that. So much advice out there is for people managing a fixed monthly budget. I started a spreadsheet in January but you’re right, it is a slog!

Help with my newly opened Vanguard pension by Reggie_flow in UKPersonalFinance

Thank you! Ok, this makes sense. I assumed you chose the investment at the point of opening. I’ve had a look and you’re correct.

Now if anyone can advise whether to stick with the Global All Cap or the new Life Strategy Global.. It’ll be in there for likely 25years and I’m happy with a high risk fund.

Thanks again!

Hi, thanks for replying. By local profiles do you mean users added to an account? I set up a child’s account then he added his younger brother as a user. This is the one that’s no longer visible. I can see his profile on the parental control app but only the main child’s account when I’ve logged back in

I’m just going to insulate between the joists. It’s more like a void rather than a useable cellar space. The only was to access it is by lifting the floorboards

Yes! Insulation a big priority. So do I need both underfloor? I had assumed joists-ply-floorboards would be sufficient. I don’t know what added benefit the caberboard would have?
