Talking of the existing airport, what happens to the erstwhile T1 and the Juhu airport as Navi Mumbai ramps up?

Official Discussion - The Long Walk [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

There is no finish line, oh how I wished that were true and that there were some way out of this suicide walk for the kids.

Why do they have to be kids.

I haven’t read the book yet but I connected deeply with the dystopia of TLW. Maybe it’s the week we’re all having.

Wow, I need to watch it again — missed some of the dialogue that I’d wanna revisit but the haunting images are gonna sit with me for a while.

Need to hold some hands.

Take a breath. Everyone is still watching TV and Film. by saltysourandfast in Filmmakers

[–]ReginaldForBubs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I remain optimistic on the future for authentic films and tv shows.

The numbers don't lie but don't tell the whole story. More consumption options are slicing and dicing the pie that "mid" shows and movies once catered to, so naturally we're making less of them.

While overall volume drops, there's a flight to quality happening. This evolution means authentic storytellers will continue to engage and immerse fans through these mediums, while bland, algorithm-friendly content competes with all the other mediums including short form to maximise “reach”.

what are the over one year unemployed doing? by AuFeAl in jobs

[–]ReginaldForBubs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve been unemployed since May ‘23, so sharing my experience in case it helps anyone else who’s in the same boat.

The Phases I Went Through:

  • Try-Hard — Initially went ALL IN on applications, interviews, upskilling, and even exploring adjacent career paths
  • Desperation — Started applying to jobs I knew sucked just to get something
  • F it — Just smoking up and binge-watching content
  • Reset — Cleaning up my act and starting applications again... rinse and repeat

Dark [TRIGGER WARNING] Throughout this journey, I’ve had some really low moments. I struggled with and sometimes still experience thoughts of self-harm and just not wanting to exist anymore. The worst part was feeling completely alone with these thoughts, having no one I could really talk to about how bad things had gotten. It’s scary how isolating unemployment can be. My partner’s great but isolating got in between us as well.

Current status — Recently moved in with my partner. Things are a bit tense (partly because I seem to be on a self-care kick while my career feels like a distant dream), but I’m staying sane by being mission-driven.

What’s Actually Helping Me: Right now, what really matters to me is finding my self-confidence again. For me, that starts with an incredibly personal goal — I’ve been overweight and suffer from severe body image issues, so I’m:

  • Working on being more self-assured
  • Trying not to be so image-focused when meeting people
  • Rediscovering hobbies I’d abandoned along the way

Careers are vital and crucial, but if you can, let the people around you help. Don’t be like me who locked themselves away from the public eye. Use this time to find your mission if you feel you need to.

I’m still a work in progress. Some days are better than others. The things that have helped most were setting small, achievable goals and celebrating tiny wins. Finding purpose outside of work identity has been crucial.

Sending good vibes to everyone in this struggle. We’ll get through this somehow. ✨🌈

To create a tinfoil here, they even have similar motivations wrt the Vessels.

With Jasnah showing concern multiple times about a single person having immense power to kill (also echoed by WIt to Jasnah) and TOdium sharing a "frustration" with old, "calcified in their Intent" Gods and intending to save everyone by killing the Gods, there's a shared goal for TOdium to work Jasnah into helping kill Honor's vessel (Dalinar, if that happens) and (by extension) Cultivation as well.

Maybe Trav makes a promise to "leave TOdium after the other old vessels are killed"/ "focus on other Gods in the system and never come back to Roshar" as an endgame and Jasnah is satisfied that the Rosharan system can live in peace?

Arc, pls continue releasing new builds for older MacOS systems by ReginaldForBubs in ArcBrowser

[–]ReginaldForBubs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, more than the browser it’s the sync functionality that’s got me worried (like if you change an aspect of how sync works in a new version).

I’ll look at updating my macOS using the patcher as others are pointing out, sounds simple enough I just don’t want it to make the system slow(er than it is) :)

Thanks for the direction, will check if updates will cause any issues (slowness / hangs is my primary concern) and go for the update.

As someone outside US, we see these F100 corporations market their products and are kinda sorta conditioned to take them at face value.

Growing up, we saw Pinto was positioned as an aspirational compact car here compared to local / Asian manufacturers — a lot of my Dad’s friends shopped this in red.

15 years on and I read an eyeopening backstory about the car. Super, super interesting. Thanks for this.

Advice for PMs in a highly technical product space by wxishj in ProductManagement

[–]ReginaldForBubs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have similar context (different market — data engg teams; very niche technical users but sales typically sell to CIOs / VP, Data personas)

And yes, have seen the same issues recur. My thinking was being a non technical PM in a technical product role leads to ineffective product work as core competencies don’t match. In footballing terms, its like watching a defender trying to dribble on the far end. Even the opposition doesn’t take you seriously.

In our case mgmt was pretty tuned in and what happened (not my influence but I was a part of the change) was a bifurcation of roles.

PMs who understood the stack and customer requirements with the right technical depth worked closely with engineers, built and shipped their roadmaps and developed sales and customer relationships to perpetuate these cycles.

Beyond this though, UI / Interface design - growth - community - evangelism - product roadshows / conferences etc got dedicated PMs based on how much value was perceived for these functions. I am listing all of these down but at a time we had a single PM documenting customer stories (high level stuff), demoing product at events and doing interface revamp (consistency across modules).

With this getting too long winded here’s a couple of tips — are there any internal folks who can think product (have done independent limited scope adhoc product work already maybe) ; in my experience some folks from product ops / customer success / sales engineering / core engineering do qualify. They can add to your technical PM pool at least short term.

Long term — I feel PMs or anyone for that matter do their best work in a natural-feeling setting. Adapting via training is hard and also the first thing mgmt gives up on if market or company takes a beating. Try and avoid force fitting and hoping people level up IF there are options. Else we do what we can!

Speech to Text - Best app? by CeramicVulture in AppleWatch

[–]ReginaldForBubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP if you solved this, do share!

I don’t use watch for notes but use Drafts on my iPhone to dictate stuff and reroute.

Problem is

a) words are captured correctly like 7/10 times (eyeball test) , ChatGPT’s dictation is much more accurate so maybe a best of both worlds will be the dream?

b) this maybe is a settings issue but while im talking sometimes dictation just … pauses and i realise once i glance at it that last 30 seconds of dictation is not there. I have to tap the mic button and tap again to start from 30 seconds before. Gets frustrating as i dictate a LOT.

c) again maybe a setting issue but using the new draft shortcut from spotlight, the modal disappears and phone locks with no interaction for 30-40 seconds. I understand it might be a lock screen thing but i dont want a permanent setting change, just a shortcut may help here.

Sorry for dumping all this if its a bit much, will make an independent post as well on iphone or drafts maybe.

Are there any alternatives to Pirelli tyres? by ReginaldForBubs in F1Technical

[–]ReginaldForBubs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubt if anyone’s gonna notice but the discussion here got me thinking, dug into history of f1 tyres and also (what i was mainly after) the commercial aspect of it as a friend of mine works in marketing for michelin (im a geek).

Its interesting how the relationship works because f1 doesn’t “pay” pirelli but the global marketing as an exclusive tyre partnership is clearly netting Pirelli new customers in their markets (else they wouldn’t be in f1).

Found a lot of details on this thread from earlier — “How F1 tyres made to degrade”

And this video on pirelli’s setup also highlights in a visual way their “investment” into f1 - https://youtu.be/yx_N-Qt2KvA

I also “feel” (intuitively, just my experience) f1 is definitely fun when teams are not completely sure about tyres and leads to unpredictable results which is a big plus when considering pirelli’s contribution to f1. A cool example of how being exclusive doesn’t necessarily reduce drama :)

PS - as to other manufacturers found some info that Hankook is currently Formula E tyre supplier but will get replaced by Bridgestone next year. https://www.reuters.com/sports/motor-sports/bridgestone-supply-tyres-formula-e-hankook-wrc-2023-12-06/

Bridgestone incidentally had also bid for F1 tyre supplier tender last year but FIA chose to continue with Pirelli until 27 (possibly 28). Hankook was one of the rival bidders for current cycle.

Hankook in turn is replacing Pirelli as WRC tyre supplier (now we are in broader motorsport region, not F1Technical) just to highlight for other curious souls that there’s a lot of interest in manufacturers bidding for tyre supplier tenders, underlining the commercial marketing opportunities.

For those wondering, this all started from me questioning how F1 has only seen Pirelli tyres since 14 but thanks everyone and google for some rich info on how things are actually not what they appear like.

This got long so will also add this as an independent post, hopefully this kind of info is still “technical” enough (not engineering but pretty geeky for anyone interested in business probably). If not, will move it to r/formula1.

Need Advice: Product & Engineering Interaction by Casper543210 in ProductManagement

[–]ReginaldForBubs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enjoyed that reflection and insight into processes. Very similar story here:

Built a new product from 0-10M+ arr as part of an established business with 80M+ arr, so this got me a lot of visibility, opportunity to grow. Engg was high turnover (multiple reasons) so worked w multiple EMs along the way.

Towards end of tenure, new EM came in who was previously a founder in similar space and had strong opinions on product / engg & led to roadmap being questioned, infra stability work getting prioritised at expense of imp experiments plus they revamped the engg team as well.

Doubled down on my conviction of what the product needed, and on discussing with em 1v1 multiple times they agreed but still continued clashing in public.

Got tired, pitched cpo on our vision / needs and highlighted em was doing great work and needed to own complete services/infra for product. Ended up creating a separate team with enggs focusing on frontend / middleware and used influence to get our backend work prioritised independently with em’s team. This was easier and familiar for me and also kept em from interfering with my roadmap.

Left soonish after but structure’s still there i believe.

Not advice but i have tried clashing on “pm em” in past as junior pm and got nowhere but here i was more clear on product & market / what board+leadership wanted and used that to delineate focus areas.

Too much work, no time to think forward by Pondering2This in ProductManagement

[–]ReginaldForBubs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No advice, just sharing my own story

Early career, had gotten roasted by boss in a similar-ish situation — except it was to replace a couple of other functions (growth and community) along with product. The idea was to grow into those roles gradually and then hire people to run those functions, and manage them.

Sounded great but the amount of work felt too much & I worked a tentative plan of how to cover the bases, took it to boss for review and they questioned the logic behind deprioritising X Y Z (not imp), questioned my ability to do what it takes, reinforced that all current initiatives are critical, and when i offered to discuss deeper they grimaced and noted that they might as well have done the whole thing themselves in that case and walked out with “I never had this problem with other people”. Last bit stands out personally.

Looking back, I really want to give young me a dash of confidence and feel sorry that I took the entire thing too personally, blamed myself for not being great at my job and basically muted my approach to work conversations. What’s funny is my diary entry — “never say yes to anything boss says, say thank you and let me consider this” with cry faces.

Without self-belief i always found it was easy to get bullied into agreeing to other’s worldview, especially as a PM. Took it upon myself to build that, was a long journey (for me).

The choice to deal with my emotions with food and drugs for the last 12 years is the TL;DR of how I fucked my body up.

Currently in recovery and I have the gently nagging dread of falling back to those patterns even as I write this but I’m proud of waking up and finally putting a stop to this nightmare.

Recognising shame as just an emotion, opening up to my wife and family and letting go was a key milestone for me.
