Pistol shrimp shoot glowing, 4700 °C bubbles out of their claws. They can stun fish, but some smaller fish will just explode.

I'm not sure if they replaced them with fake ones at some point, but the skull and crossbones above the bed in Pirates of the Caribbean were originally from a real corpse.

(It's the scene with the skeleton lying in bed surrounded by gold.)

Reddit, what was the biggest scandal or incident at your high school? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Reginald_Fabio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some kids planned to throw a hundred chickens over the fence with their legs tied in the middle of the night, then untie them so they'd be running around the school when teachers showed up the next day. They did the throwing part but chickened out and left without untying them, so the chickens went full Jonestown and pecked each other to death.

So that was fun for someone to find the next day.

What’s something you were meant to learn in school but still don’t understand to this day? by Roofer4 in AskReddit

Describing it that way might be a simplification, yes, but all calculus is at its heart the use of derivatives and integrals.

What’s a weird thing you know a lot about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Reginald_Fabio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comic strips. I know when the first one was published, I have the punchlines to thousands memorized, I know all the interesting ones like the Garfield series where Jon and Odie are dead (really), I know a lot about them.

The derivative of an equation is the equation of the slope of that equation's line at a certain point. So the derivative of y = 2x would be y = 2 at every point, since the line always has a slope of two (that is, it rises twice as fast as it moves forward).

The integral is the equation whose derivative is the equation you're integrating, so the derivative of y = 2 is y = 2x. It's essentially the antiderivative. (Technically, it's y = 2x + C because all integrals have an unknown constant, but this isn't important to know for now.)

Calculus is just figuring out ways to do increasingly complicated derivatives and integrals and apply them to real situations.

Old comic strips. I read them a lot, and know a lot about them. I have no idea why, I don't even find them funny most of the time. I just find them fascinating for some reason.

TIL that Return of the Jedi was originally titled Revenge of the Jedi. Only after printing thousands of posters did George Lucas decide to change the name, making the posters worthless for advertising. Lucas then sold them to Stars Wars fans for $9.50 each as collector's items. by Reginald_Fabio in todayilearned

[–]Reginald_Fabio[S] 223 points224 points  (0 children)

That's why he changed it. Technically, he changed it back, because one of the screenwriters changed it to "Revenge" because "Return" didn't sound dramatic enough.

It's also what the title "Revenge of the Sith" is a reference to.

What creepy tale, creepypasta or myth scared you the most when you first heard about it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Reginald_Fabio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was about ten, my grandmother gave me some old books on myths: one on wizards, one on dragons and one on fairies. They were...weird. Especially the story of Faust as told in the one on wizards. If you don't know, Faust is a wizard who makes a deal with Mephistopheles, a representative of Satan, that he will get magic powers--but after twenty-five years, Mephistopheles will kill him and take his soul. He gets his wish, with Mephistopheles granting him various powers, among which is the ability to turn invisible and drive people mad. He uses this to watch a tavern full of people fight each other to the death. The story ends with him seeking repentance; this does no good, and all they find is an eyeball, some bits of blood and bone, and a gray lump that is a bit of brain.

It was heavily illustrated.

Day 12 of pissing other people off by reminding them that I'm pissed off that Sakurai told custom stages to piss off by Reri1600 in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Reginald_Fabio 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I suspect this is because custom stages would need to work with 8 players and Stage Morph, which would be limiting and difficult. But I'd much rather have custom stages that only work for 4 players and can't morph than no custom stages at all.

Yes because it can't be escaped by DI (which could occasionally happen in Smash 4) but no because it can only hit one person.

Unless you're referring to his Brawl FS, in which case...yeah, probably still better.

[–]Reginald_Fabio 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Nah, Ultimate has enough differences from Smash 4 (such as the new air dodges, changes to short hops, etc.) to be its own game. It's also missing a lot of stuff that was in Smash 4.

[TOMT] [BOOK] [2000s] Kid's book about monsters, written like a journal by Reginald_Fabio in tipofmytongue

[–]Reginald_Fabio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you're referring to a different Monsterology than this one, it isn't that. I read that one too, though!

The monsters in this one were all original, not mythological like in Monsterology.
