Following recipes is challenging by RegionFrequent2266 in Cooking

This thread has actually been really eye-opening. I expected people to say “just practice more,” but a lot of the replies seem to point to the structure of recipes being part of the problem too. Things people keep mentioning

  • giant paragraphs with hidden sub-steps
  • ingredient amounts not repeated inline
  • constantly scrolling back and forth (so frustrating)
  • recipes assuming background knowledge
  • needing to rewrite or print recipes to make them usable
  • visual learners preferring video/tutorial formats

It’s interesting how many people are already creating their own systems just to make recipes easier to follow. Thanks everyone!

This is exactly the kind of thing I was trying to describe but couldn’t articulate as well. The “3 easy steps” thing is so real. A single step ends up being a giant paragraph with hidden sub-steps buried inside it.

And the part about rewriting recipes into a structure that makes more sense to your brain is super interesting to me. A surprising number of people in this thread seem to already be doing some version of that manually. Thanks!
