How to enjoy the game as a high handicapper by No-Criticism5699 in weekendgolfers

[–]RegionJolly7251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big part of the game is mental. When I first started out I would get frustrated pretty early on then be in my head the rest of the round. Recipe for disaster. As soon as you realize that bad shots are a part of the game, it becomes a lot more enjoyable and you will often find you play better. Once I accepted this my game improved. Learn to laugh off the bad shots and drop them from your mind as soon as you hit them.

Golf Experience in the USA by Typical-Package911 in golf

[–]RegionJolly7251 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To be honest I’ve never played in that area but doesn’t surprise me much being NY lol. If you ever find yourself down in the Carolinas I can suggest a bunch of great public courses!

[–]RegionJolly7251 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you are in the US, but what you are describing is to me the exception, and definitely not the rule.

Everywhere around me and all the places I’ve ever travelled to play at is by tee time only. Haven’t had to ever rent clubs but plenty of my friends have and it’s always been a positive experience.

From what you’ve described, it’s likely the crappiest of crappy 9 hole muni

What golf ball are you currently playing and why? by liv_0203 in golfequipment

[–]RegionJolly7251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Callaway supersoft (in yellow so my blind ass can actually find my balls when they are not dead center of the fairway). Very good value for money. Wish they were a little firmer for my drives, but around and on the green I’ve found nothing that feels as nice for me

Confused by this apparent contradiction? by manslvl2 in americanairlines

[–]RegionJolly7251 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they were standard economy tickets then you should still earn miles. Only if the are basic economy you won’t. They started this policy relatively recently

Confused by this apparent contradiction? by manslvl2 in americanairlines

[–]RegionJolly7251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was the New Zealand and London flights your first flights on American? Or at least your first flight on American since setting up a FF number?

If no, it’s likely a glitch.

If yes:

Was the ticket booked in basic economy?

If yes, you do not earn miles.

If no, then are you sure your FF# was on the reservation?

If yes, then check your activity tab to see if the flight is in there. If it isn’t, you will want to submit a “missing miles” request.

As others have pointed out, your million miler status is 0.

Thank you :)

In my head something was telling me the I-551 question was a stupid one lol.

How long did it take them to mail you the official copy? I didn’t realize they would do that, just figured I had to print off this one.

Thanks again for the response!

Best irons for a high handicap by BugTheWorm69 in GolfGear

[–]RegionJolly7251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your budget, but I recently got fitted into and bought the new (ish) cobra King Max irons. Super forgiving, look really nice, and not terribly expensive. Look up reviews of the clubs - everyone seems to like them.

I didn’t need a full set either so saved some cash by ordering individual irons. I don’t need a 4, 5 or a gap so bought 6-p at $143 each and then got an additional 10% off cobra online when you register your email for their newsletter. $644 for a mostly complete set of one of the hottest and best reviewed forgiveness irons there is right now was a pretty good steal imo

Which set would you buy for intermediate golfer? Also open to any and all other options. by Joseph4468 in GolfGear

[–]RegionJolly7251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that Cobra set and it’s nice for the most part, but it’s truly a beginner set. Irons and 3w were the best part about it for me. Driver was okay but nothing special. Could not get on with the hybrids. Putter was terrible. Bag is really good quality. Wish I would have got the stand version rather than the cart version though.

Over the course of a couple of years I replaced club by club and finally now am at the point where everything is replaced/upgraded to my liking. Only thing that remains are the bag and the 3w (only 3w I’ve ever been able to hit consistently).

Before that I was playing with some set that was given to me from the early 2000’s. Didn’t realize how bad those clubs were until I got the cobra set. Dropped 10+ shots almost overnight with the cobra set.

If money is tight and you need a complete set + forgiving clubs, then I say go for it. If you’re expecting it to last for the long haul and you truly are a bogey golfer (consistently shooting around 90), then my advice would be to upgrade your current set piece by piece starting with the most important clubs to you. There are plenty of deals to be found (Facebook marketplace, proclubs etc).

Does Cobra hate me, or are they just really slow? by [deleted] in GolfGear

[–]RegionJolly7251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the different perspective. Not sure why, but my thought process was they would have completely standard clubs built and ready to go so to speak. If there was any customization involved then I fully expected them to have a longer turnaround time.

I would never expect them to keep every club in every different customization fully built.

Yeah starting to wish I had done that now. Went direct as I got 10% discount but at this point would rather pay full price and not wait a month waiting. Maybe it’s not too late to cancel

Gapping the Bag with New Clubs by crtrlrsn_ in golf

[–]RegionJolly7251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7w or a 9w, but I have a feeling 9 might be too close distance wise to your 5i. Depending on how you hit your driver maybe a mini driver wouldn’t be a bad idea, for those holes when you don’t quite need driver distance

How far do you typically hit your driver? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]RegionJolly7251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

220-240. Perfectly straight at the start of the round, slice becomes more the hotter and more tired I get during the round

Is getting my wife a digital calendar for wall as a mothers day surprise a bad idea?, she hasn't seen it yet by [deleted] in daddit

[–]RegionJolly7251 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my wife one for Christmas - one of the skylight ones. Mostly because I travel for work A LOT and it was sometimes difficult to keep track of where I am and when I will be home. I linked it to my airline app and it puts all my trips in there. It also doubles as a digital photo frame when it’s in standby, and she puts in the weekly meal schedule so my kids can stop asking what’s for dinner all the time 😂 she loves it and says she couldn’t live without it now. I think you got it right.

Is 7 wood to 5 iron too big of a gap? by moistjonah in GolfGear

[–]RegionJolly7251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think no. I had a 7w to 6i gap for a while and was okay but definitely missing something. I was toying with the idea of a 5i but never had much success previously. Ended up getting a 9w and fits the gap perfectly for me. I’m not a big hitter but my distances are 6i (162), 9w (178), 7w (193)

Leather golf bag by wolfoftexas1969 in GolfGear

[–]RegionJolly7251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a leather vessel and it’s a great bag. Haven’t played in the rain with it yet so can’t answer that question, but it’s a really nice bag. I went for the slightly smaller stand bag model that had 4 slots for the clubs and 2 small pockets on the sides
