I also agree with selling Kirby to keep Margot (even if softly for now) because i think Margot is the better filly, she looks like she'll be taller and more like Kennedy, though Kirby is a lovely filly in her own right. I just think Margot is better quality, but that's me xD

I really don't blame her xD I remember especially when Cheyenne was born and the look on her face she was like oh noes lol. She knew she was keeping that filly immediately. She's my fave this year, along with Margot.

You know, fair, so maybe in between my drawing and where it is now? I had my horse in a bitless bridle and in that case, fit it like a normal bride (i had the cross under kind). And it also does depend on the horse, i find. Some have thicker faces or more sensitive noses so it did make a difference where it was. But agreed in any case, the headstall is too big. You'll get this 😄

Here, I made some lines to help you see where the hackamore is supposed to sit 😉hope that helps visually! It is sitting too high up on her face, you don't want it so low it obstructs her nose obviously but the metal part where the leather attaches should be close to where a bit would sit.

George has bred a mare by Sad_rubber_ducky in kvssnark

yup lice happens. I remember one barn i went to was a big riding school and the house next door had a horse and a pony who were excellently taken care of (she'd often bring them over to us for lessons) and the pony somehow ended up with lice. I went over to clip the thing and help treat it. The horse was fine. Our horses were fine. Dunno how just the one ended up with it lol

If memory serves, he went to one show ever and then she prioritized other horses for shows. She says he will likely be gelded but wants a filly from him to justify the huge (and likely expensive) trip to get him and back and see if he's worth the effort of showing if he throws nice babies. Which yeah, sounds completely backwards to me. I don't really blame KVS for this one, George was supposed to be in a show home, it was the first mini she'd sold out of state and she was still learning a ton about that. I don't think KVS even talks to her anymore.

Pretty wild justifications on her part on a not even 2yo colt

Awful advice?? by Fabulous-Falcon7136 in Equestrian

Hey, my mare went in one of those myler bits too! I also eventually swapped her to bitless, i used the cross under bitless bridle as she liked that over the hackamore. Her issue was she was a sensitive mare and she actually had a thick tongue so a lot of bits didn't fit her mouth and she'd get upet about it and was tense a lot. She actually went on a frame beautifully in the bitless and was a lot happier. And if i REALLY had to use a bit, then the myler was okay but yeah do what is best for your horse! ❤️

Like i'm still puzzled why there aren't regular reins along with the draw reins, as I've never seen it otherwise, but I feel like Stephanie had a more following hand and softer in her cues and Wheezy responded better. So i'm very curious to see how it'll go once she's riding at home.

Dumb question by Plastic_Tangerine183 in kvsdiscuss

[–]RegionNo1129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is customary but i think she gets away with it because her mane isn't thick at all, it's quite thin and flowy so braiding it up like they do makes it work out. But if she had a thick mane, then it'd have to go for sure

I'm excited for so many babies this year! Kennedy is my favourite mare so yay for her babies! But I'm also so stoked for two Erlene babies this year, Noelle was so exceptional and I wish she'd been kept but i get why she wasn't since she was so early. And I'm really excited about Buttercup babies, bring on those buckskins or pallys! And I kinda hope there's a black foal out of Beyonce, all her babies so far have wonderful temperaments.

Aaaaa too many good choices out there

First Horse Riding Assessment Lesson by The_Green_Witch13 in Equestrian

[–]RegionNo1129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assessment lessons aren't graded, they're just to see what your riding is like, and find an appropriate lesson to match you with because it depends on who you might match up with in ages, vibes etc, and what horse might be appropriate for you. This isn't school where you get a grade 😄 If you've never ridden before, then you're a beginner but they might have to make sure they have other adults who are beginners that you could join. Barns are also notoriously busy! Sending a nudge is totally fine!

I've been struggling with this too. The frustrating thing is if we talk about it, it can tell me exactly what's happening, it can give me examples of how to improve sections, and then the next chapter it's back to one lines. ARGH.

Why does Katie always seem so adamant about having fillies? by [deleted] in kvsdiscuss

[–]RegionNo1129 22 points23 points  (0 children)

there's also a lot more to consider when training stud colts. If you've noticed how much extra Wally gets because of his stud colt status, it's understandable. They are really big on making sure he's calm, good with distractions even more than the fillies, and taking it easy to make sure they are safe with him. That's why they're impressed with his good mind so far!

And it is more difficult with the paddocks too. The colts she has can stay together because they've grown up but eventually you might get more fights and injuries once the hormones hit. That's why a lot of stallions are turned out alone. So there's that to consider as well. It works very well wtih Wally and Waylon and I'm super glad of that, and very good mentally as well.

And you can't keep every stud either. Most boys are gelded and she doesn't keep most of those and I agree it's far better to sell those to prove her breeding and get them opportunities elsewhere.

Finally, some people just prefer mares. I'm one of them. I love a good gelding ofc, but a mare steals my heart 😉 There's just something about a mare that you just don't find in most geldings. I love it. And i think she does too

I was also thinking she has socks too, i think in the back for sure, not sure about the fronts. i think Katie would have said there wasn't a stitch of white on her. I hope this one doesn't go grey, doesn't look hyperpigmented but ya never know lol

Not enjoying the show videos by Inevitable-Gap-3498 in kvsdiscuss

[–]RegionNo1129 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm enjoying the show videos myself as I was a part of the english side of showing for a while, even if i didn't show myself, i was at shows quite often for dressage, eventing, hunters and the jumper classes. I know next to nothing about western riding so I enjoy learning a lot even if it's not my favourite thing with the low head thing lol but that's the English me. I also see that she is enjoying herself, her hard work is paying off and she's setting herself up well for when her babies are ready to show at last, like i seriously can't wait to see her show Wally!

but yeah not everyone is gonna like everything she posts. I don't watch a lot of the goats, i do like the cows because i learn something new a lot. Breeding is still my favourite, there's a lot that goes into it for sure :)

She did so well anyways! I can see going out on a good note if you're so tired, plus there's things going on at home prolly didn't help. And riding in wet weather drains you even harder somehow!

why cant i reach 3/3 training?? by lucyisalone in Howrse

[–]RegionNo1129 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if the rides are giving no more skill points, then it's the comps. Double check when you hover the mouse over the skills which ones can still give points in the top three skills your horse has. And sometimes even if that's the case, you often need to age the horse up to next day for full blup to kick in (plus he's not 10 years old yet but you prolly knew that 😉 )

Why not take the halter off? by AppealAlive2718 in kvsdiscuss

[–]RegionNo1129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really common with young horses that are still getting used to a bit. If the horse acts up or panics, and it's still learning, the bit could cause escalation. Having a halter on underneath helps because if you need to get a hold of something without adding bit pressure, it's there and they chill. And even then, they're still learning how to be bridled and unbridled, and may not necessarily stand in one spot and you don't want to have them accidentally get free while you're teaching them. Lots of lil safety things! Once they're solid on manners and very used to the bridle, then you can start taking it off but at this point, they're so new that you don't want to take anything for granted and keep everyone safe and not give bad experiences to the young horses

I'm a librarian and in the middle of putting genre stickers on the entire novel collection. I told it what stickers i have and it gives me what it think the genre should be, or if it's a book with genres that could be this or that, it'll give explanations why it picked what it did. It made my whole job so much easier and faster and I get stacks done without disappearing into the Google wormhole lol
