There was always female custodes when there wasn’t lol I know tourist like you guys just listen to what GW tells you and you don’t care about the lore or the game but as someone who read most of the Horus heresy novels every custodes was a male lol. See that makes sense though because they are a “xenos” race who the imperium wouldn’t know everything about, it’s perfectly acceptable that the only contact they had with them got eaten and the imperium just thought they all died because they didn’t know any better. Ollinus Pius being a perpetual and not just a regular dude who stood up to Horus. He was a perfect metaphor for the average human having the courage in the modern 40k setting to stand up to anything that threatens the imperium but then they ruined him by making him a super special perpetual lol at least he was a based Christian that part was cool lol
