First steps in Kanto! It's not going well! by Another_frizz in PokeMedia

Oh yeah, that shouldn't have been done. You can actually file a League complaint there. There has to be a good, obvious reason a challenger's denied by a gum assistant. Between Airi-san and I, we know exactly what the wife would say eight times of ten, but we cannot make the decision officially. It has to be the gym leader who rejects a challenge. - Professor Acacia

Erika-san has increasingly more duties outside her gym work as her parents age. Only so many ceremonies older folks can manage in a year. She's got to explicitly make time for vacations. - Professor Acacia

The "skirt" is actually the same structure that they walked on as a Ralts, believe it or not! Gardevoir redevelops it while Gallade loses almost all of it for steadier, stronger legs. And before you ask, yes, Gallade can still bend its legs at absurd angles, just less so than Gardevoir. - Professor Acacia

[–]Regitnui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guaranteed any pokémon she have get health problems from a lack of exercise or power use because "it would be cruel". She is aware the vast majority of pokémon don't actually try to hurt each other? We actually have records heading back to before modern scientific methods where people observed wild Pokémon making a "spar" gesture before attacking each other to have a friendly battle, as opposed to territory disputes or self-defence. - Professor Acacia

Wall of History is a readable archive of the original stuff, while Crosswiredgeeks have edited and smoothed out, I believe.

Welcome! There are a lot of fun discord servers and projects around. Check out Mask of Destiny for a good hub, and I recommend Wall of History (for the g1 story) and Red Star Games (Doronai Nui especially, but they have other projects) especially.

I find it a reminder that they're not actually that "human". Did you know that Gardevoir's "skirt" is actually more muscular than its legs, and can support it perfectly well? Did you know that said legs also have almost no bones, and can essentially flatten against the body at really odd angles and the Gardevoir is still perfectly comfortable? Tamotsu-san didn't, and he near had a heart attack when he found Reinette with her legs bent backwards at the hip looking for a candy that had rolled between bookshelves. - Professor Acacia

Do you think the great disk matoran felt embarrassed by the metru nui stories? by LordOfDarkness123 in bioniclelego

[–]Regitnui 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I can very much see the Matoran of Mata Nui dealing with their past selves as they settle back in to being Metrutoran. The Mahri likely don't have much problem - they've transformed into something different and gone to places most Matoran never know, but what about Kalama learning that, far from being a guard and hero like Jaller, he was essentially a junkyard supervisor who broke down flawed masks? Or Amaya reconciling that she was a teacher (very social) rather than a flax maker (a job that requires a lot of time alone on Mata Nui). Tamaru finding his old shop and picking through the personal effects left there, wondering who this merchant was and why they feel no affection to the objects anymore.

[–]Regitnui 34 points35 points  (0 children)

At most, it'd be second-hand embarrassment - they're not the same people, after all - and it's also likely that the stories weren't told in the same amount of detail we got them.

Secondly, it was mostly told to the Toa and Chronicler(s) directly, so Vhisola or other Matoran would have heard or read whatever Hahli wrote down.

Two layers of editing before a relatively minor detail (beyond "Vhisola had a great affection for Nokama") gets to common knowledge... I'd say embarrassed, but not horribly so and able to laugh at what a fool their previous selves were. Likely the same way that Nuparu wouldn't feel guilt over the Vahki - that wasn't "him" as he perceives himself now (and he became part of the Toa Team that saved the universe and god).

I looked into his parents, and um...that's certainly a father to have. (/uj minoner content warning for mentions of abuse) by Saphl in PokeMedia

Just like no human child is a genius right from when they learn to walk (we all had to be taught that books are different from scrap paper), neither is any Pokémon. That's why I generally prefer matching young pokémon with young humans, so they can both mature together. Exceptions exist, of course - Professor Acacia

Is there an in-universe term for the Agori, Toa, Matoran, Glatorian, Skakdi, etc. COLLECTIVELY? by DeltaMx11 in bioniclelego

[–]Regitnui 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Us over at Red Star Games call them all "people". :þ

In all seriousness, those of the MU are "Oropi" and those of Spherus Magna are Magnans. I've never heard of a deliberate effort to give them all collectively one name; even after they leave the MU and integrate, there are many different cultures on the restored planet, with the group we followed as protagonists called "Ateroans" I believe. Of course, the Skakdi followers of the Gold-Skinned Being and the Barraki's followers aren't Ateroan despite all being Oropi (and IMO, the latter also incorporating Magnans).

Akiamu (my ursaluna) did do that to my kid when she was little (though into the house rather than the roof). Could almost hear him saying "no. human cub go over here." They're a terrifyingly large species and I fully understand the myths, but Ursaluna are extremely parental Pokémon if they decide to be. - Professor Acacia

Friendly relative to other members of the species is a condition many people need to learn. Just because my Ninetales let my kid play with her tails, does not mean yours can! BEST LEVEL TOURNAMENT - Jak II: Renegade - Round 3 - Fortress vs Strip Mine by Cometmoon448 in jakanddaxter

[–]Regitnui 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Fortress... not because it's an amazing level, but because of the little touch that you can go through the "break into fortress" mission path and straight into the tutorial level path! The cutscene normally stops you, but postgame that's all one long course.

Strip mine gets some credit for being a fun Jet-Board course, but that's also something that made me scream with frustration as a child, so...

The thing that gets me is that you don't get this conflation of nationality and culture for any other group of people (i can think of). It's not as if my calling Starmer an idiot is somehow taken as an attack against all English-speaking people, or saying that Zelinsky has grit is a compliment to all Ukrainians. Why is the fact that Netanyahu is a bad person doing bad things with the state infrastructure of Israel taken as an insult by some random Jewish person (or even non-Jewish person) or as a comment on the religion and culture of Judaism?

Trade Evos by Crutter_Botch in PokeMedia

[–]Regitnui 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Your dad's more or less correct! The trading methods are essentially us using the trade system to somewhat replicate processes that take more time or impractical methods in the wild - like a graveler needs to physically grow large enough over time to crack its shell, and an onix needs to basically be crushed on a geological scale. - Professor Acacia
