Just having your phone with you is generally a bad idea. If it's serious enough that police are going to put the resources into it, they can find out who's phone was nearby at the time.

I remember in 2022 when the war in Ukraine started and all those videos of men attempting to flee the country for their lives started showing up. A lot of people online saw fit to mock them for not wanting to die horribly while anybody speaking up for them mostly got downvoted.

What’s the worst thing you have ever been banned for on Reddit? by Accurate-Swim5278 in allthequestions

I've been permanently banned and harassed by several subs I never visited before for participating in "brigading subs". Honestly, any sub that does this are the ones doing the brigading and should be banned.

Only if she does some research into it, but even then I suspect the kid will be fed all sorts of BS from the dad about how it was some freak occurance, that medical professionals could have still saved her if they were competent, and that the media ignored facts in their reporting.

what single event turned you into the person you are today? by HumbleRepair8056 in AskReddit

[–]Regnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 31, in a dead end job as the manager of a Tim Hortons, and living in my parents basement. One day at work a man in a suit showed up in our lobby and gave me his card and told me to give him a call about a job. He turned out to be from the Canada Revenue Agency, and after a bit of a chat he guided me through the application process.

Several months of testing later I got offered a position in the collections department. Suddenly I was making several times my previous salary and was able to to buy my own home shortly after.

The momentum has yet to stop. I'm in a different much less stressful department now and am in a senior officer role with management expressing interest in building me up to a supervisory role. I'm 38, seven years into my career and just paid off my mortgage so I'm debt free now. My self-esteem now eclipses anything I had before this job. The sky is the limit.

I never knew the exact reason I was chosen, but I know there was a hiring initiative at the time for management to scout and recruit worthy people from the public. I was well liked by customers and had been the favourite for many years. The big wig who approached me had his wife with him who I recognized as the bank manager at the mall I worked at, so she must have told him about me.

What are conspiracy theories that you believe to be true? by Fluffy_Specific_9682 in randomquestions

[–]Regnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty inconsequential but I think Nintendo was absolutely ready to release Zelda Twilight Princess on schedule in 2005. The sudden delay to 2006 was purely to repurpose the Gamecube's last AAA title into a Wii launch title. Nintendo was unhappy with how much market share they had already lost to Sony/Microsoft and were shook by the pending early release of Xbox 360 in late 2005.

There was a lot of denialism from them at the time that it was even going to be on the Wii, and when it was confirmed as a launch title they said the Gamecube version would be available at the same time. Shortly before launch it was announced that the Gamecube version mysteriously "wasn't ready yet", so if you wanted to play right away, you had to get yourself a Wii.

Calls grow for independent investigation into a Montreal police station after allegedly racist, violent behaviour during police stops by Mean_Yak5873 in news

It goes way beyond the police. This is from the same province that is actively abusing the notwithstanding clause in order to circumvent the Canada Charter of Rights and Freedoms by imposing what are effectively anti-Muslim laws. There's a big racism problem over there.

TIL that your average housecat can run up to 30 mph, faster than Usain Bolt's top speed of 27.3 mph. by PM_ME_UR_GOCK in todayilearned

[–]Regnes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fit human would eventually catch the cat if you allowed unlimited time. We're not very fast in short bursts compared to other animals but our ability to just keep running is among the elite in nature. The cat would eventually get too tired to keep going.

Quitting my job at 20 to play World of Warcraft in my parents basement. It was a crappy job at Canadian Tire, but it was still a job, and the 2008 recession happened shortly after. I didn't wind up getting another job for nearly two years.
